General Motors celebrates being the first domestic automaker to build electric motors and drive units in the United States Tuesday, April 16, 2003 at its Baltimore Operations facility - where it manufactures electric motors for the Chevrolet Spark EV in White Marsh, Maryland. GM engineers designed and developed the Spark EV motor and drive unit that will produce 140 hp (105 kW) and 400 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds.
