- Authentic American SUV features segment’s largest body
- Top performance with 3.6L GDI engine and 9-speed automatic transmission
- High-tech all-wheel drive and proven trailering function come standard
Seoul – On September 3, Chevrolet unveiled the Traverse – its authentic American super-large SUV – in Yangyang, Gangwon, and began accepting pre-contracts.
The Traverse consolidates Chevrolet’s large SUV expertise. With its segment-best driving performance, excellent towing capacity and high-tech safety features, the Traverse is a family SUV for those who enjoy outdoor activities such as boating and camping.
“Chevrolet developed the world’s first SUV in 1935 and has been making large SUVs longer than any other brand in the U.S., the home of large SUVs,” said GM Korea President and CEO Kaher Kazem. “The Traverse, is the largest SUV in its segment, distinctively styled and equipped to satisfy the most discerning customers wanting to express their individuality and expand their experiences.”
Largest body and interior in its segment
The Traverse boasts a robust length of 5,200 mm, width of 2,000 mm and height of 1,785 mm. It is the longest vehicle offered in Korea. It also has a very roomy interior due to its wheelbase that exceeds 3,000 mm.
It comes with seven seats, including separate seats in the second row. The third row seats have segment-best legroom of 850 mm, ensuring a comfortable ride for all passengers. Through a full-flat floor design, Chevrolet maximized the use of space plus convenience in the second and third rows.
As a result, the Traverse has best-in-class cargo capacity, with up to 651 liters of space in back. The cargo space expands up to 1,635 liters when the third-row seats are folded and 2,780 liters when the second-row and third-row seats are folded.
The exterior design is simple yet stylish, featuring Chevrolet’s latest family look. The brand’s dual-port grille and state-of-the-art LED headlights have been combined in the neat and voluminous car body that demonstrates the art of moderation.
High-performance powertrain and best trailering performance
The Traverse’s powertrain combines a high-performance 3.6L six-cylinder GDI engine with a Hydramatic nine-speed automatic transmission, unleashing maximum power of 314 horsepower and maximum torque of 36.8 kg.m. This is the strongest performance in its class.
The four-wheel drive system that comes standard on the Traverse can be switched to Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) mode and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) mode, thanks to its Switchable AWD technology. However, the Traverse still offers high fuel efficiency. It reduces unnecessary power loss by blocking the rotation of a propeller shaft in FWD mode.
The Switchable AWD system offers stable performance and handling in each mode, including the Off-Road and Tow/Haul modes. The driver can switch between modes by turning a dial.
The Tow/Haul mode, which is used to tow heavy trailers or caravans, enables the Traverse to operate seamlessly by optimizing gearshift patterns, torque distribution to front and rear wheels, and throttle sensitivity depending on towing conditions.
In addition, the vehicle offers stable trailering performance by using both the trailer braking system and the sway control system. This helps the vehicle maintain stability by adjusting engine output when detecting hazards from a trailer’s sudden shaking.
As an original hidden trailer hitch receiver and connector needed for towing are standard features, the Traverse can haul trailers or caravans with a weight of up to 2.2 tons without any modifications. Moreover, an all-dimensional towing system with a heavy-duty cooling system, a hitch guideline and a hitch view monitoring system make hooking up trailers or caravans convenient.
Latest convenience and safety features
A diverse range of state-of-the-art convenience amenities can be found in the Traverse, for the pleasure of the driver and passengers. The Auto Cabin Climate Optimal Control System works in conjunction with the smart remote start system. It automatically activates the heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, and trizone automatic air conditioning, depending on indoor and outdoor conditions, and the driver’s preferences.
Independent captain seats in the second row are equipped with the Smart Slide® feature, which can only be found in the Traverse. The seats can be tilted and moved forward by pulling a handle to allow third-row passengers to easily get in and out of the vehicle.
The Rear Seat Reminder, a standard feature in every trim, reminds the driver to check if there are passengers or items in back before they leave the vehicle.
In addition, the Chevrolet Bowtie Projection Hands-Free Power Tailgate projects the location of sensors on the ground. It allows the tailgate to be opened automatically, even if the driver has both hands full.
As an SUV for families, the Traverse comes with many high-tech safety features. Among its seven air bags are advanced air bags for the driver’s seat and front passenger seat. In addition, the Traverse incorporates the domestic market’s first center air bags in the front row to prevent the risk of the driver and front-seat passenger colliding during an accident.
Its all-dimensional intelligent safety system includes Forward Collision Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Front Pedestrian Braking. Among the other safety technology are digital surround vision cameras and rear-view mirrors with high-resolution pantoscopic cameras.
Five models with three trims
Five models with three trims are being introduced: the LT Leather trim equipped with four-wheel drive and various convenience devices as standard; the LT Leather Premium trim with state-of-the-art safety features; the Premier trim with advanced convenience technology; and the RS and Red Line packages with upgraded interiors and exteriors.
The LT Leather trim maximizes customer satisfaction with its plethora of convenience and safety features not generally found in basic trims of other models.
