Seoul – Chevrolet today launched the Colorado midsize pickup truck, which embodies the 100-year heritage of the brand, in Hoengseong, Gangwon. It has begun accepting pre-order contracts.

The Colorado embodies the true American lifestyle. With a solid full-frame body, it delivers best-in-class performance, strong traction, and unparalleled functionality and practicality. It is a versatile model that is equally suitable for country roads and city life.

“We are pleased to finally be launching our authentic American pickup truck, which customers have been eagerly awaiting since its unveiling in Korea last year,” said GM Korea President and CEO Kaher Kazem. “We look forward to addressing the needs of domestic pickup truck enthusiasts through the Colorado.”

The Colorado is a short-box four-door crew cab pickup truck with two rows of seats. It has the longest overall length(5,415 mm) wheelbase in its segment (3,258 mm) and a large cargo capacity of up to 1,170 liters along with plentiful interior space. This allows five-person families to move around comfortably.

The Colorado boasts a 3.6L six-cylinder direct-injection gasoline engine with up to 312 horsepower and maximum torque of 38 kg.m. Matched with an Hydramatic eight-speed automatic transmission, the powerful engine enables the Colorado to tow a large RV.

The pickup truck’s state-of-the-art body has a length of 5,415 mm, width of 1,885 mm and height of 1,830 mm. It makes a strong impression with its bold front-end design and soaring hood line.

Three trims are being offered in Korea: the rear-wheel-drive EXTREME with ample amenities, the EXTREME 4WD with an advanced 4x4 drivetrain, and the EXTREME-X with a style package.

Colorado EXTREME – providing a base model with original value

The base model Colorado EXTREME comes standard with specialized off-road differential locks and 17-inch all-terrain tires. The G80 Mechanical Locking Differential, which is built into the rear wheels, not only features Limited Slip Differential (LSD) that limits the differential function depending on the left and right wheel traction, but also features an automated differential lock feature that automatically locks the car to help keep the vehicle stable while maintaining traction on slippery roads when the traction gap between the left and right wheels becomes extreme.

Its convenience features have been optimized based on the American pickup truck lifestyle. Built with an internal torsion bar and rotary damper, the EZ Lift and Lower Tailgate allows owners to open and close the tailgate easily, safely and slowly. Corner steps make it easy to move cargo without having to climb into the loading box.

The pickup truck also comes with a cargo lamp that illuminates the loading compartment and a high-quality sprayed-on bedliner that prevents slippage and corrosion.

The Colorado embodies the practicality of pickup trucks. Cleverly designed buttons, temperature dials and gear knobs make it easy to drive even when wearing gloves. A storage box for tools under the second-row seats maximizes space utilization. The rear sliding window can be opened and closed easily for added ventilation and to check on pets riding in the box.

Despite its rugged exterior, the interior is equipped with leather seats, which are highly favored by Korean customers, with electric adjustment and powered lumbar support. The front seats are also available with the heating function.

Colorado EXTREME 4WD – taking safety to a new level

The Colorado EXTREME 4WD model is based on the EXTREME model. It comes with the advanced Autotrack Active 4×4 system. The best-in-class system not only supports two- and four-wheel drive, but also features the AUTO mode, which is unique in its class and automatically adjusts the driving mode according to road conditions. This makes driving safer and more convenient.

The additional safety package includes forward collision alert(FCA), the lane departure warning system (LDWS) and the head-up reflected LED alert display(RLAD).

Colorado EXTREME-X – maximizing pickup truck style

The Colorado EXTREME-X model is based on the EXTREME 4WD. It comes with the style package that includes Off-Road Side Steps that make it even easier for passengers to get in and out of the vehicle, bright LED black Chevrolet bowtie logos that illuminate in the dark, an exquisite stainless steel muffler exhaust tip with an engraved bowtie logo, and door sill plates with a bowtie logo. Premium floor liners in both rows of seats are resistant to dirt and easy to clean, for added customer satisfaction.

The EXTREME-X is also available with a black sports bar and a black side rail. In addition, a navigation package with Bose speakers and a trailer package featured with the integrated trailer brake system are available across all trims to further expand customer choice.

Strong traction capability supports heavy loads

The Colorado has a towing capacity of up to 3.2 tons. It is equipped with Chevrolet's advanced omni-directional active safety system, which is quite rare in the pickup truck market.

The Tow/Haul Mode and the integrated Trailer Brake system enhance vehicle control and trailer stability, even when carrying a massive load or towing a trailer or carrying a massive load. Furthermore, the Trailer Sway Control system detects the sway of a trailer that may be caused by uneven roads at high speeds, road surface changes or vortices. The system constantly monitors the driving balance of a trailer, helping prevent an accident.

The StabiliTrak Stability Control and Hill Start Assist systems make driving simpler, even on bumpy roads and inclines. A rear-view camera equipped with Hitch Assist Guideline makes it much easier to attach a trailer.

Perfect practicality for the domestic environment

The Colorado is imported from the United States. Maintenance is conveniently available through Chevrolet's more than 400 official service centers nationwide. Those who have been reluctant to buy an imported vehicle due to inconvenient service availability can now enjoy the import experience.

Chevrolet also operates a large-scale engineering center in Korea that supports navigation development and other Korean specific features.

The Colorado is classified as a freight vehicle in Korea. As a result, the annual car tax is a very low KRW 28,500 despite the pickup truck’s high-performance 3.6L engine. The estimated registration tax of 5% is lower than the 7% tax on regular passenger vehicle models. On top of that, the 5% individual consumption tax and 1.5% education tax are exempted, while the 10% value added tax will be reimbursed if the purchaser is registered as an individual business owner.

Available accessories accentuate Chevrolet’s truck heritage

Chevrolet has been rolling out pickup trucks since the debut of its flagship one-ton model in 1918. The Colorado builds on that heritage. More than 140,000 units of the Colorado have been sold in the U.S., the birthplace of pickup trucks and the world’s most competitive pickup market.

Based on Chevrolet's long-standing truck heritage and the preferences of local buyers, GM Korea plans to offer a range of reasonably priced specialized pickup truck accessories and custom accessories sold in North America. They include a black Chevrolet lettered grille, a loading box cover, camping tents and tailgate spoilers.

“The introduction of the Colorado represents much more than just the launch of an authentic pickup truck,” said GM Korea Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing Caesar Toledo. “Chevrolet is supporting an entirely new lifestyle through the Colorado. We are confident that the Colorado will drive Chevrolet's vision of being a Search Engine for Real Life and become a catalyst for the opening of new segments in the domestic vehicle market.”

The price of the Colorado is KRW 38,550,000 for the EXTREME; KRW 41,300,000 for the EXTREME 4WD; and KRW 42,650,000 for the EXTREME-X.
