INGERSOLL, ON (February 11, 2013) — CAMI Assembly was recognized for achievements in improving its overall energy efficiency and conservation.  It received the top award for all large volume General Motors vehicle assembly plants in North America for energy performance in 2012.

The facility met GM’s external energy benchmark criteria, developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ENERGY STAR® program. CAMI also reduced its energy intensity by 10 percent and water usage by 5 percent year-over-year.

“This recognition is really a testament to all the hard work of all of our employees, who have a laser focus on building top quality vehicles for our customers, but at the same time work tirelessly to reduce CAMI’s environmental footprint,” said Les Bogar, plant manager, CAMI Assembly.

The performance criteria used to determine the top 2012 performers for GM’s North American manufacturing facilities included:

  • Year-over-year energy intensity reduction
  • Shut-down effectiveness
  • Ambient space temperatures
  • Year-over-year water intensity reduction

In addition to being recognized for energy efficiency, the CAMI stamping facility is landfill-free, recycling, reusing or converting to energy all waste from daily operations.

The CAMI Assembly plant produces the Consumer Choice Award winning and fuel efficient Chevrolet Equinox and  GMC Terrain mid-crossover utility vehicles.

GM is dedicated to energy efficiency and is working toward a goal to reduce energy intensity from its global facilities 20 percent by 2020. For more information on GM’s environmental commitment, visit www.gm.com/environment and its GMBeyondNow.com environmental blog.
