Tom Strohm was named general director, Marketing for General Motors Service and Parts Operations August 1, 2001. His responsibilities include planning and executing SPO's product development, marketing and customer service activities.
Strohm began his GM career in 1969 as a General Motors Institute co-op student sponsored by GM Parts Division and was named district manager of the Philadelphia zone in 1974. In 1979, he was named city district manager of the Buffalo zone and two years later was promoted to assistant zone manager there. He was named assistant manager of the Los Angeles zone in 1982 and the following year was promoted and transferred to Detroit as sales promotion and advertising manager.
In 1985, he was named sales zone manager in Cleveland and two years later transferred to Chicago in the same capacity. In 1991, Strohm was promoted to director of Marketing and Customer Relations for SPO-International. Two years later, he was named Western area sales manager and subsequently was named assistant general sales manager-East for GM parts in 1995. In 1998, he was assigned the position of general director, SPO Canada. He remained there until assuming his current position.
A native of Detroit, Strohm earned a bachelor's degree in industrial administration in 1974 from General Motors Institute, now Kettering University.
