Carl Hammaker was named GM Service and Parts Operations (SPO) director of engineering Aug. 1, 1998. His responsibilities include leading service parts engineering for service determination, release and cataloging for General Motors original equipment service; product development and validation for GM Accessories; and All Makes/All Models product engineering and catalogs for ACDelco.
Hammaker began his GM career in 1968 as a GMI co-op and then a manufacturing engineer at Delco Products in Dayton, Ohio. In 1979 he transferred to Kettering, Ohio, to become general supervisor of manufacturing at GM's shock absorber plant. He was promoted to manufacturing superintendent in 1980, then manager of product purchasing in 1982. Hammaker traveled overseas to Spain in 1983 to be the manager for materials management. In 1985, he returned to Kettering where he stayed until 1995, holding the positions of manager of planning and ventures, chief production engineer, chief engineer of suspension and mechanical components, and director of chassis engineering. Prior to his current position, Hammaker was named Delphi Automotive director of aftermarket engineering in 1995, located in Troy, Mich.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Hammaker received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from General Motors Institute, Flint, (now Kettering University) in 1972. As a GM Fellow, Hammaker received a master of science from Purdue University in 1973. In 1977, he received an MBA from the University of Dayton. Hammaker received a GM President's Award in 1996 for the DuraStop Brake Project and a SPO Vice Presidents Award in 1998 for the Distribution Stakeholder Satisfaction Steering Committee Team.
