EPA Five Star Rating
For 2001, the Saturn L100 and L200 earned five star rating from the EPA. Five stars is the top rating. The rating system is designed to give people a picture of how their car impacts the environment and is based on fuel economy and emissions. For 2001, only 15 vehicles earned five-star ratings from the EPA.

Strategic Vision: 2000 Total Value Index,
The Saturn brand scored the highest (747) on Strategic Vision’s Total Value Index. Highest possible score is 1,000.
The only domestic vehicles among the top 10 models are the Saturn coupe (760) and Chevrolet Monte Carlo (757). This is the fifth consecutive year the Saturn coupe has come out on top of the study. Saturn is the only domestic nameplate in the top ten.
MotorWeek Driver’s Choice Award for Best Family Sedan: The Saturn LS
Award based on a compilation of criteria such as product integrity, performance, pricing, value and purpose.

STRATEGIC VISION: 1999 Total Value Index,
The Saturn Coupe earned the top score in the TVI segment, Sporty Cars Under $30,000 class, for the fourth year in a row. The index measures perceived Total Quality against the affordability and the deal offfered, as well as whether or not the vehicle is economical to own, gives good fuel economy , warranty coverage, durability and expected resale value.
GOOD HOUSEKEEPING INSTITUTE: "1999 Women's Automotive Satisfaction Award."
Saturn earned this Good Housekeeping award as an automotive name plate that exceeds the average level of womens' satisfaction and willingness to re-purchase the same vehicle.
J.D POWER AND ASSOCIATES: "Best nameplate in Japan" according to 1998 Customer Satisfaction Index
Saturn received the honor of best overall nameplate of vehicles marketed in Japan. This marks the first time a U.S. domestic nameplate has achieved this distinction.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "1999 New Car Assessment Program"
’99 SL1 Sedan earns double 5-star rating for both driver and passenger protection in frontal collision tests. Saturn is the only light passenger car to receive the highest rating.

The new ’99 Saturn 3-Door Coupe honored as a "Best of What’s New" recipient in the category of Automotive Technology. "The scramble to fit into the back seat of a two-door coupe has ended," according to the publication.
SmartMoney Magazine "1999 New Car Buying Guide" - October 1998
The Saturn SC2 was rated a "Best Buy" for Sporty Cars Under $30,000. The magazine’s ratings took into account Strategic Vision’s "Total Quality Index" and IntelliChoice’s cost of ownership information to identify what vehicle provided "excellent quality at a reasonable cost" in each category.

As a nameplate, Saturn was rated the number one domestic brand (fifth overall) by new vehicle buyers who believe they got a "good deal," that the vehicle will have a strong resale value and will be durable.
In addition, the 1998 Saturn Coupe ranked first in the "Sporty Cars Under $30,000" segment as being "extremely affordable for the class, economical to own and offers its owners good fuel economy, durability and strong resale value."

The 1998 SC2 selected based up the car’s "aerodynamic qualities, allows easy access to all exterior areas, is free of dirt-trapping indentations, has wheel wells that release dirt easily, and has moldings and bumpers that are securely attached and smoothly integrated into the body."

Saturn ranked number one among all nameplates with a score of 160--the highest ever recorded in the J.D. Power study. Saturn’s finish also marked another first--the first time a nameplate had the top score in all three measuring categories (salesperson performance, delivery activities and initial product quality) that comprise the sales satisfaction index.

Saturn finished third behind luxury nameplates Lexus and Infinity and was the only domestic nameplate within the top five for customer satisfaction. Saturn’s score of 159 was well above the industry average of 138.
