Detroit, Mich. - General Motors (GM) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), lead sponsors for the Challenge X: Crossover to Sustainable Mobility engineering competition, congratulated students from Mississippi State University, who took top honors today at the third annual competition.

2007-06-05 On Road Fuel Economy
The purpose of the on-road energy use event is to determine the energy use and fuel economy of participant vehicles. Vehicles will be driven over a closed-loop road circuit with varying speeds, accelerations, and start/stops. The type of driving over the closed loop is designed to simulate real-world driving conditions.
2007-06-04 On Road Emissions Testing Technology
Chassis dynamometer testing has traditionally been used for measuring tailpipe emissions from automobiles and light trucks. This approach provides a controlled environment and the ability to use large and accurate emissions sampling systems.
2007-06-02 Rick Wagoner visits Challenge X Students at GM’s Milford Proving Ground
Rick Wagoner, Chairman and CEO of General Motors visited with the Challenge X students on June 1, 2007. He gave encouraging remarks to the students for the days of competition ahead. Wagoner also thanked the students for their dedication and hard work on the crucial technologies that face the automotive industry today. He answered several questions from the students as well as having lunch with one student from each team.

The Challenge X competition emphasizes the demonstration of safety and readiness prior to any of the vehicles competing in dynamic driving events. In order for these student vehicles to achieve the lofty goals of fuel economy, emissions and functional utility, significant modifications are required.
