DVD Entertainment Systems
GM offers two DVD entertainment system options.
System 1 is fully integrated into an overhead console with a fold-down screen for middle and rear seat viewing. It features wireless headsets with automatic shut-off to extend battery life. A wireless infrared remote control allows rear seat passengers to control the system without moving around the interior of the vehicle. The system has a full seven or eight-inch LCD screen with a 16:9 ratio and with the ability to horizontally stretch a 4:3 image to fill the screen.
System 2 contains DVD players in the back of the front seat headrests that allow passengers in different parts of the vehicle to enjoy different entertainment media. Rear seat passengers can watch two different movies or one can watch a film while the other plays video games. Currently system 2 is available as a dealer installed option. Fully integrated seatback systems will be available in future GM vehicles.
Newer systems have the DVD player in the dashboard to allow front seat passengers to control the DVD playback.
All DVD Entertainment systems have input jacks that allow audio & video playback from portable media players like iPod or the Microsoft Zune.
The audio could optionally be enjoyed in the vehicle speakers to allow all passengers to enjoy the playback or just in the wireless headsets.
How it works
Either System has dual source capability making it possible for front seat occupants to enjoy an audio source (AM, FM, XM) while the rear seat passengers watch the DVD. Either system provides passengers in the back seat to watch the DVD Rear Seat Entertainment System. While the passengers are entertained in the back seat, passengers in the front can have their choice of what to listen to.
