For immediate release
DETROIT – GMC greets the 2007 model year with a flurry of new trucks, SUVs and, for the first time, a crossover SUV – the all-new Acadia . The Acadia challenges the best in the growing crossover market and is a natural extension of GMC’s strong truck heritage, attracting new customers to GMC dealerships.
The Acadia joins the redesigned Sierra lineup of full-size trucks and the all-new Yukon, Yukon XL and Yukon Denali family of full-size SUVs. In fact, by the time the ’07 model year closes, all-new models will account for 75 percent of GMC’s volume.
The all-new vehicles are helping to maintain the momentum and market gains that GMC has registered for more than a decade. With sales records in 11 of the last 13 years and total sales volume leaping more than 80 percent since 1991, GMC is now the second-largest General Motors division in sales.
Increased sales and market share have come in a tough market that has seen increased competition from import brands, but GMC’s lineup continues to offer customers premium trucks and SUVs that fit a variety of active lifestyles. Yukon Denali models, for example, accounted for 37 percent of Yukon sales in 2006 and have grown by more than 300 percent since the exclusive Denali model was introduced in 2000.
GMC vehicles are the tangible expressions of GMC’s Professional Grade philosophy, which is centered on engineering excellence, innovation and design; attributes that have guided GMC since it began building trucks – and only trucks – in 1902. No other manufacturer has built trucks longer.
Here’s a look at GMC’s 2007 lineup:
Acadia
The all-new Acadia is GMC’s first crossover SUV. It features a body-frame integral design that enables lower step-in height and the generous interior space of larger SUVs. A comprehensive safety system includes six standard air bags and standard StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation technology.
Acadia is powered by GM’s 3.6L V-6 VVT rated at 275 horsepower (205 kW) and 251 lb.-ft. of torque (340 Nm).* The engine is backed by a new, fuel-saving Hydra-Matic 6T75 six-speed automatic transmission. Acadia is available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models; fuel economy is EPA rated at 18 mpg in city driving and 26 mpg on the highway with FWD models and 17 and 24 mpg with AWD models.
Acadia rides on a 118.9-inch (3,020.7 mm) wheelbase and wide 67.28-inch (1,709 mm) front/rear tracks – a combination that lowers the center of gravity and enables smooth, stable ride and handling. The front suspension features a MacPherson strut design, with a direct-acting stabilizer bar and aluminum knuckles. The rear suspension uses a compact, state-of-the-art linked “H” design that enables the handling prowess that comes with an independent suspension, but with minimal floor pan intrusion – a feature that helps the Acadia offer generous passenger and cargo space. The suspension systems enable a 4,500-pound (2,042 kg) towing capacity.
Acadia ’s interior offers three rows of adult comfort seating while simultaneously providing generous storage space behind the third-row seat. A car-like “low and away” instrument panel enhances the feeling of openness in the front-row seats and provides a commanding outward view. The instrument panel and other interior elements feature high-quality, low-gloss materials and tight gap tolerances. GM’s exclusive Smart Slide feature is standard on all second-row configurations, allowing quick and easy access to the third-row seating area.
Yukon and Yukon Denali
The all-new 2007 Yukon lineup landed in showrooms in early 2006. Several standard and available engines in the new SUVs offer fuel-saving Active Fuel Management™, which helps increase fuel efficiency by seamlessly shutting off half of the engine’s cylinders in certain driving conditions. This technology helps give GMC’s full-size SUV lineup the segment’s best fuel economy. Along with increased efficiency, several models of the Yukon and Yukon XL are offered with engines that can run on E85, a renewable fuel made of 85 percent ethyl alcohol (ethanol) and 15 percent gasoline. GM has more E85 vehicles on the road than any other manufacturer.
The Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali offer unique exterior design and interior features, as well as an all-new 6.2L all-aluminum small-block V-8 engine with variable valve timing and a new six-speed automatic transmission. The 6.2L engine is rated at 380 horsepower (283 kW)*, the most horsepower in its class.
Sierra
The all-new 2007 Sierra elevates industry standards with segment-best V-8 power and fuel efficiency, along with agile ride and handling and the quietest interior of any full-size truck. It also delivers the light-duty segment’s highest-rated towing capacity (10,500 pounds/4,763 kg) and offers a maximum payload capacity of 2,160 pounds (980 kg).
Sierra light-duty models are in dealer showrooms, and Sierra Denali and heavy-duty models begin production in the first quarter of 2007. Sierra is available in several trim packages, including work truck, SLE (SLE1 and SLE2 models) and SLT, along with 2WD and 4WD configurations. Three cab styles – regular, extended and crew cab – and three cargo box lengths – 5 foot 8 inches, 6 foot 6 inches and 8 foot – are offered.
Sierra Denali is a distinct model, with differentiated, exclusive features that elevate its performance and design, such as an exclusive 6.2L all-aluminum V-8 engine with variable valve timing and a new six-speed automatic transmission. The Sierra Denali is available in 2WD and AWD crew cab models.
Sierra Classic
Based on the popular models that broke sales records with more than 230,000 units sold in 2005, the Sierra Classic delivers a diverse array of configurations, including regular, extended or crew cab body styles. Cargo box choices include the standard 6-foot 6-inch (2 m), extended 8-foot (2.4 m) bed and, with light-duty models, a shorter 5-foot 8-inch (1.7 m) bed. Half-ton, three-quarter-ton and one-ton models deliver tremendous payload and towing capability for almost any need. Sierra Classic models are available with 2WD, 4WD and, with the unique Sierra Denali Classic, full-time all-wheel drive. The Sierra Hybrid Classic also is available for the ’07 model year.
Canyon
Canyon is offered in ’07 with larger-displacement engines that deliver more power. A new 2.9L DOHC four-cylinder with variable valve timing (VVT) replaces the previous 2.8L four-cylinder and delivers 185 horsepower (138 kW) and 190 lb.-ft. of torque (262 Nm). A new, 3.7L DOHC five-cylinder with VVT replaces the previous 3.5L engine and is rated at 242 horsepower (180 kW) and 242 lb.-ft. of torque (335 Nm).
Additionally, GM’s tire pressure monitoring system is standard on all models and a chrome-finish 15-inch five-spoke wheel is available. The interior trim is updated and there are three new exterior colors: Sport Blue, Midnight Blue Metallic and Sonoma Red Metallic.
Canyon’s lineup of professional grade offerings is one of the widest, most diverse in the industry. It includes Regular Cab, Extended Cab or Crew Cab body styles; two pickup bed lengths; three available suspensions; and two inline engines. Vehicles are offered in Work Truck, SL, SLE and SLT trims. A ZQ8 sport model combines performance maneuverability with an unmistakable sport-truck appearance package – and available 18-inch bright-finish wheels – while the popular Z71 Off Road package offers distinctive visual cues to augment its suspension differentiation.
Envoy and Envoy Denali
The 2007 GMC Envoy and Envoy Denali continue to offer, comfort, capability and refinement in the midsize SUV segment. Refinements to the lineup include a stylish, new 18-inch high-polished forged aluminum wheel available on Envoy SLE and SLT models, as well as three all-new colors: Silvermist Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic and Graphite Metallic. A tire pressure monitoring system is standard on all ’07 Envoy models.
Envoy and Envoy Denali are offered in a roomy, midsize package that rides on a 113-inch wheelbase (2,869 mm); the extended-length models are discontinued. The robust Vortec 4.2L six-cylinder is standard in Envoy models, while the powerful Vortec 5.3L V-8 is standard with Envoy Denali. The Vortec 5.3L is equipped with GM’s fuel-saving Active Fuel Management technology, while regulated voltage control is added to both engines for ’07, also enhancing fuel economy. A four-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission is standard on all models. StabiliTrak electronic stability control system also is standard on all models.
Envoy and Envoy Denali offer a myriad of entertainment choices. In addition to the AM/FM stereo and CD players, owners may also opt for an MP3 player, XM Satellite Radio, a Bose premium sound system, touch screen navigation or a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. OnStar with a one-year Safe and Sound service package is standard.
Envoy Denali takes GMC’s midsize SUV platform to the pinnacle of comfort and style, with specific design cues, including the iconic honeycomb grille, unique front and rear fascias, specific moldings, assist steps and standard 18-inch wheels. A host of interior amenities distinguish Envoy Denali, too, including rear wood trim on the steering wheel.
Savana
GMC Savana’s popularity can be directly traced to its versatility: It’s a proven passenger hauler – able to accommodate up to 15 passengers – as well as a reliable and durable commercial cargo van; and it forms the foundation for conversion vans. There’s more standard power for Savana Passenger Van customers for 2007, thanks to the Vortec 5.3L V-8. It delivers 295 horsepower (220 kW) and 335 lb.-ft. of torque (454 Nm), resulting in segment-leading acceleration. The Vortec 5.3L is the standard engine in G1500 and H1500 Passenger models, and in H1500 Cargo and Conversion models.
For 2007, customers may order a GM FlexFuel E85 version of the Vortec 5.3L. It delivers the same horsepower and torque as its gasoline counterpart, while running on E85 ethanol fuel or a mixture of E85 and gasoline. E85 is comprised of 85 percent ethanol, which is a renewable resource fuel produced domestically. Savana is available with a variety of gasoline engines and the Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V-8, delivers 250 horsepower (186 kW) and a class-leading 460 lb.-ft. of torque (624 Nm).
Savana delivers a host of safety features, including standard StabiliTrak on all one-ton passenger vans, available all-wheel drive and the available OnStar safety and security system on passenger and conversion models. The safety of the Savana 1500 Series is validated by its five-star federal government frontal crash test safety rating for the driver and front seat passenger.
Yukon Hybrid
The 2008 GMC Yukon Hybrid, featuring the world’s first two-mode hybrid propulsion system in an SUV, will offer consumers an estimated 25 percent improvement in overall fuel economy when it arrives at dealerships toward the end of 2007. By utilizing innovative hybrid technology and Active Fuel Management™ cylinder deactivation technology, the Yukon Hybrid will deliver a spectacular combination of fuel efficiency and power, while maintaining the capabilities of a full-size SUV.
The Yukon Hybrid is powered by an aluminum small-block Vortec V-8 engine that maintains important performance attributes of full-size trucks, such as a 6,000-pound (2,721 kg) towing capacity. To offset the added weight from the hybrid propulsion system, GM redesigned certain vehicle components to optimize aerodynamics. These design changes include a new hood, front and rear fascias, and a sleek GMC grille.
While traditional full hybrid systems offer only one electric mode that is utilized during low speed driving, GM is teaming up with DaimlerChrysler and BMW Group to co-develop the two-mode hybrid system, which is a patented fuel-saving technology with one mode for city driving and one mode for highway driving. The first mode of the system is for low speed and light loads. In this mode, the hybrid system can operate with electric power only, engine power only, and any combination of engine and electric power. The second mode is primarily used at highway speeds.
* Horsepower and torque SAE certified. A new voluntary power and torque certification procedure developed by the SAE Engine Test Code committee was approved March 31, 2005 . This procedure (J2723) ensures fair, accurate ratings for horsepower and torque by allowing manufacturers to certify their engines through third-party witness testing. GM was the first auto manufacturer to begin using the procedure and expects to use it for all newly rated engines in the future.
