John Lacey, MS, MBA

Director of Communications and External Affairs, Johnson & Johnson

John is a biotechnology communications executive who for over 20 years has translated the value of basic science, clinical research, and marketed therapies to patients, journalists, investors, government leaders, and institutional partners. His professional experience crosses all areas of the drug development ecosystem—from venture firm, policy association, and academic research center to small- and large-cap biotechnology companies.

John oversaw communications for Polaris Partners, one of the leading technology and healthcare venture capital firms.  In this role, he used traditional and new media approaches to foster awareness of the firm’s investment strategy and served as a communications advisor to multiple portfolio companies.

Prior to joining Polaris, John was a senior member of the corporate communications team at Genzyme Corporation, where he also oversaw the franchise communications for the company’s multiple sclerosis, oncology, and transplant programs. John also managed corporate communications and investor relations for Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, which was acquired by GlaxoSmithKline in 2008.

In addition to John’s public company experience, he has experience in higher education and government relations. John managed public relations for Harvard Medical School as well as MassBio, the leading advocate for the Massachusetts biotechnology community.

John received his MBA from Boston College, where he was recognized with the Ray Keyes Endurance Award for Outstanding and Distinguished Performance. He received his MS in Journalism from Boston University, and his bachelor’s degree from Bates College.
