Rüsselsheim, GERMANY. Opel is continuing to grow across Europe and has already reached the milestone of one million vehicles sold. In the first ten months of the year, registrations across Europe increased by 45,500 units or around five percent to more than 977,000 units. The Rüsselsheim-based carmaker has already sold more than one million vehicles this year – reaching the milestone roughly a fortnight earlier than last year.
Rüsselsheim. Next year Opel will be driving flat out in all vehicle categories. “7 in 17” is the name of the model offensive with seven premieres in 2017. Never in its long history – automobile production since 1899! – has Opel had so many new models in a single calendar year. JOHANNESBURG - Opel Astra, the reigning European Car of the Year, has been selected as a finalist for the 2017 Wesbank South African Car of the Year (COTY) competition. This is the second successive year in which an Opel has been named COTY finalist in South Africa after ADAM and Corsa were voted as finalists last year.

Rüsselsheim. In the biggest automobile customer satisfaction survey in Germany – the annual J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) – the Opel ADAM small car received the highest rating. The Opel Insignia claimed a strong fourth place in the midsize class and the Opel Mokka took the bronze medal in the highly competitive compact SUV class. The J.D. Power survey assesses 24 car manufacturers and 68 car models.
Rüsselsheim. The Opel GT Concept, a star at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, continues the brand’s strong concept car tradition and embodies avant-garde design in a purist form. This has now also been recognized by the German Design Council, organizer of the renowned Automotive Brand Contest. The competition’s top-notch jury chose the sportscar of the future in the “Concepts” category for the “Best of Best” award. Great start to the year for Opel: The brand sold around 303,000 vehicles across Europe in the first quarter – an increase of almost 24,000 vehicles or 8 percent compared to the same period of 2015. Opel has managed to break through the 300,000 new vehicle barrier for the first time in five years thanks to the successful ongoing product offensive. The brand with the Blitz showed a stronger development than the overall European market, which only grew by 5 percent from January to March. Opel’s market share was thus up by around 0.2 percentage points to 6 percent. The company therefore recorded it best first quarter sales figures and market share for five years.

DETROIT – General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) sold 7.2 million vehicles globally in the first nine months of 2015. The company posted sales increases in four of its five largest markets, with record sales in China and strong retail sales gains in the United States. Total sales were down 1 percent, due primarily to the company’s previously announced decisions to strategically reduce its presence in certain markets, as well as difficult market conditions in South America.

02 July 2015 – Total industry sales for new vehicles came in at 50 251 units for June down 4.8% compared to June last year.

Rüsselsheim. The full name of the new Opel engine is 1.4 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo and it will celebrate its world premiere in the new Opel Astra at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt (IAA) in September. The four-cylinder turbocharged unit with central direct fuel injection will be available in two outputs, 92 kW and 110 kW. This combination links the new all-aluminium engine to the recently introduced 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo known from Opel ADAM and Corsa. In fact, the new 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine is the big brother of the one-litre, three-cylinder unit that has been praised by the trade press since its introduction in the ADAM ROCKS and the new Corsa generation. Both engines are members of the so-called small petrol engine family – a group of high-tech engines with three or four cylinders and a displacement below 1.6 litres. They are key players in the biggest engine offensive in Opel’s history which will see 17 new engines brought to market from 2014 to 2018.

02 June 2015 – NAAMSA new vehicle sales figures released this week show the market in line with GMSA’s expectations for the month with a total of 47 868 units. The pressure on consumers and the economy in general are definitely reflected in these industry sales numbers.

05 May 2015 – April NAAMSA new vehicles sales showed a decrease of 10 913 units vs March 2015. Total industry volume was 44 503 units, down 3.3 percent vs April 2014. The main factor behind the significantly lower sales this April was the number of public holidays.
Rüsselsheim. Opel is on the right track: with 279,306 new registrations in the first quarter of 2015, the automaker’s sales were considerably higher than the same year-ago period according to preliminary figures. The sales increase of around 8,500 cars is a plus of 3.1 percent. With this, Opel and its British sister brand Vauxhall grew slightly more than the overall European vehicle market‘s 2.8 percent increase. The automaker was also able to continue its positive market share trend from 2013 and 2014, slightly increasing it over the same year-ago period to 5.83 percent.
02 April 2015 – March total industry sales came in at 55 449 vehicles, an increase of 3113 vehicles compared to February. This growth was driven mainly by strong sales in light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles.

09 JANUARY 2015 – Rüsselsheim. In spite of the difficult economic environment, 2014 ended on a high for Opel with the carmaker recording its best sales figures in recent years. According to preliminary figures, the company delivered around 1.076 million vehicles in Europe last year. This is equivalent to an increase of 35 000 cars or three percent. Opel thereby outgrew the overall European market which only registered growth of two percent. Opel’s share of the overall European vehicle market was up for the second year running – by 0.1 percentage points to 5.74 percent. Opel achieved its best sales figures and market share since 2011.
03 NOVEMBER 2014 – The South African motor industry continues to grow despite a turbulent year, with October 2014 new vehicle sales totalling 59 384 units – almost 3 000 units and a 4.7% gain versus the same period in 2014. The recent growth in the overall industry can be attributed to strong direct channel sales whilst sales at dealer level have declined slightly.

The Opel range has been boosted with the addition of a sporty two-seater, the Opel Tigra TwinTop, which was unveiled to South African motoring journalists over the past weekend.
ONE of Spain’s leading motoring magazine – Autopista – has selected the Opel Meriva 1,7 CDTI as its vehicle of choice following a recent comparison test involving two of the Meriva’s two closest local rivals.
The Opel Humewood Golf Festival, jointly sponsored by GM South Africa and the Humewood Golf Club, will take place from the 9th to the 12th of March 2005. The event will be held at the Humewood Golf Club in Port Elizabeth, the top ranked course in the Eastern Cape. With this year’s event open to all affiliated golfers, it is expected to attract around 800 entrants from around the country and from abroad.
2004 has been a phenomenal year for Opel, which has had a successful run in the European market and in the process, has also notched up a number of awards.
