Beijing –General Motors President Dan Ammann gave a "fireside chat" to students at Peking University, one of China's most prestigious educational institutions, on April 19. He was part of the Career Development and Global Leadership Forum sponsored by Peking University and Junior Achievement China.
Ammann told participants about his career aspirations growing up in New Zealand and how he transformed those aspirations into a successful career in the automotive and investment banking industries. He encouraged the students to be global, be willing to take chances, be prepared to change careers and consider traditional industries such as the automotive industry. Ammann also shared his insights on developing leadership skills, pointing out that good leaders set priorities, are honest and lead by example.
Ammann is visiting Beijing in conjunction with Auto China 2014, this year's leading automotive exhibition in China, which opens on April 20 in China's capital.
General Motors traces its roots back to 1908. GM has 10 joint ventures, two wholly owned foreign enterprises and more than 58,000 employees in China. GM and its joint ventures offer the broadest lineup of vehicles and brands among automakers in China.
