LAS VEGAS – Chevrolet Performance has expanded its lineup of industry-exclusive Connect & Cruise crate powertrain systems and added a heavy-duty T56 Magnum six-speed manual designed for LS-engine installations in older vehicles, giving builders more choices to power their project vehicle.
A preview of an upcoming Connect & Cruise system that matches an LS3 engine with the T56 Magnum also debuts at SEMA, in a rolling chassis display that shows all the components, including the controllers. It goes on sale later in 2014 under part number CPSLS3T56.
“Chevrolet Performance pioneered the concept of crate engines more than four decades ago and continues to lead the industry with our unprecedented, factory-engineered Connect & Cruise crate powertrain systems,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports. “No other manufacturer offers a comparable system, which takes the guesswork out of the powertrain portion of your project, allowing enthusiasts to get their vehicle assembled quicker and on the road faster.”
The new high-performance Connect & Cruise crate powertrain systems include the 480-hp LS376-480, the 525-hp LS376-525 and the legendary 7.0L LS7. Each is paired with the high-strength 4L70-E four-speed automatic overdrive transmission. They join the 5.3L, LS3 and supercharged LSA systems. Emissions-compliant E-ROD versions of the 5.3L, LS3 and LSA are also available for California customers.
Each kit matches factory-engineered engine-and-transmission combinations with all the electronic control modules, wiring harnesses and other key components – all under one part number. The specially calibrated controllers for all kits are designed for retrofit installations in older vehicles, for easier and quicker installation and operation without the need for third-party tuning.
T56 Magnum for LS installations
Chevrolet Performance’s all-new TREMEC T56 Magnum transmission kit (part number 19301620) is the solution for builders looking for the strength of a heavy-duty transmission, the satisfying control of a manual transmission, and the drivability and efficiency benefits of an overdrive transmission.
Designed for LS-engine retro-fit installations, the T56 Magnum packages the stronger components of the high-performance TR6060 transmission used in the Camaro ZL1 in a kit designed for universal installations, delivering a 700 lb.-ft. torque capacity.
The T56 features a slip-yoke design and a 40-tooth reluctor ring to satisfy the electronic vehicle speed sensor used with Chevrolet Performance controllers. It also comes with a shifter handle and ball-style shift knob with the Chevrolet Performance logo on it. The transmission has provisions for three shifter positions and the included shifter accommodates two of them.
A separate, complementing installation kit (part number 19301625) includes the bell housing, clutch release bearing, an LS7 clutch and pressure plate, and an LS7 flywheel with a 6-bolt flange, which is compatible with all LS engines except the LSA, LS9, LSX454 and LSX454R.
More information about the Connect & Cruise crate powertrains and T56 Magnum transmission is available in the new 2014 Chevrolet Performance Parts catalog, which is available directly from Chevrolet dealers or can be downloaded at chevrolet.com.
