Cadillac ATS Compact Luxury Sports Sedan Launched in China

Guangzhou – The much-anticipated Cadillac ATS compact luxury sports sedan was launched today in China at Auto Guangzhou 2013.

The imported model is available in four trim levels along with five exterior and two interior color options. It is priced from RMB 308,000 to RMB 438,000, and is available with flexible financing.

"The ATS incorporates Cadillac’s latest achievements in design and technology," said Shanghai GM President Wang Xiaoqiu during today’s launch ceremony. "It is visually stunning and extremely maneuverable, breathing new life into its segment.”

He added, “The ATS complements the rest of our Cadillac lineup, which includes the XTS and SRX. It will further accelerate the luxury brand’s growth in China.”

ATS: Sporty, Agile and Engaging

Powered by a 2.0L turbocharged SIDI engine, one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines for 2013, the ATS delivers class-leading performance. The engine generates maximum power of 203 kW, peak torque of 353 Nm and impressive power per liter of 101.5 kW. This enables the ATS to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds.

The ATS has a wide range of features usually found in race cars. They include Brembo brakes across the entire ATS range, a ZF rear mechanical limited slip differential, 18-inch aluminum alloy wheel hubs and Bridgestone high-performance run-flat tires.

From the beginning of the design process, Cadillac engineers focused on creating a model that would be lighter than any other car in its class. The ATS weighs 1,550 kg and has a near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution. Lines and curves designed to minimize wind resistance, coupled with a large fairing at the bottom of the car body, give it exceptional aerodynamic performance. The active air intake grille shuts automatically when the car reaches a speed of over 60 km/h, reducing drag.

The ATS is fitted with third-generation Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) to deliver a more addictive driving experience. The suspension adjusts to changing surfaces up to 1,000 times per second to help maintain tire traction and a comfortable ride. A tap-shift control and five driving modes maximize driving pleasure.

Engineers made the interior a priority as well. Bose Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) works with the phase reversal of the in-car audio system to help neutralize unwanted engine noise. Together with AudioPilot noise compensation technology, it transforms the car into a haven for music enjoyment. Bose Centerpoint surround technology with 10 speakers allows for an immersive surround-sound experience even during aggressive driving.

The ATS provides a high level of safety for occupants. A mix of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel gives the ATS a rigid body structure. Ten air bags are being offered for the first time in its segment. The industry-leading Enhanced Safety Strategy (ESS) II package incorporates advanced safety features such as collision-avoiding automatic braking and full-speed range adaptive cruise control.

The ATS has distinctive styling and a strong dynamic feel, which are in tune with the desire of young car buyers to express their personality.

The profile incorporates Cadillac's signature design language, with body lines that are designed to maximize air flow, speed and aerodynamic performance. Short front and rear overhangs give the car perfect rear-wheel-drive proportions and exude a sense of mobility. Other prominent features are lines that run the length of the body, shield badges in the front and rear, daytime running lights, vertical LED taillights, a V-shaped center high-mounted stop light, xenon headlights with Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) and 10-spoke tapered wheel hubs.

The sweeping lines continue inside. The interior has an abundance of youth-oriented design elements. They include a thick-rimmed, three-spoke steering wheel, aluminum door sills, bolstered performance seats, a frameless rearview mirror, and sculpted metal accents and door handles.

Like all Cadillacs, the ATS has premium materials and craftsmanship. The center console is fully wrapped in leather. Soft leather is applied to areas that may come in contact with knees and elbows. The cut-and-sew master craftsmanship throughout the interior is both artistic and luxurious.

The ATS has adopted trendsetting advanced technologies. The Cadillac User Experience (CUE), OnStar, the MyCadillac app and the vehicle remote monitoring system enable seamless real-time connections between the user, the Internet and mobile phones for a new level of interactive connectivity.

The CUE system has an 8.0-inch display, a 5.7-inch configurable instrument cluster and a full-color head-up display. Multi-touch technology, inductive proximity sensors, tactile feedback, five-way controls on the steering wheel and voice recognition make the technologies user friendly.

Since its launch, the ATS has received several important awards, including 2013 North American Car of the Year, the 2013 Red Dot Design Award, Esquire’s Car of the Year and Popular Mechanics’ 2013 Automotive Excellence Award.
