  • Solid growth from Q1 places Oman market as one of the leaders in the Middle East
  • Passenger car sales up 36%, SUV sales up 12%, Chevrolet up 23% overall

DUBAI – A 36% increase in Chevrolet passenger car sales in Oman for Q1 shows that customers are continuing to choose from the carmaker’s extensive lineup of cars.

Oman was one of the Middle Eastern markets that posted the highest overall growth for Q1 when compared to Q1 last year. Jordan, Qatar, and the UAE also showed particularly strong growth for the quarter.

Maurice Williams, President and Managing Director of General Motors Middle East said, "I'm delighted to see such positive growth. It's fantastic that so many customers in Oman are experiencing not only the extensive features that our vehicles offer, but also the Chevrolet Care servicing program and low cost of ownership that comes with having a Chevy."

Customers are clearly responding to the fact that around 70% of Chevrolet carlines available in the Middle East are all-new or have been recently refreshed.

The growth stems from strong interest in the world’s bestselling Chevrolet, the Cruze, as well as fleet sales of the Aveo small car. The mid-sized Malibu sedan continues to be a customer favorite with a 46% increase in Q1 sales.

Chevrolet SUV sales in the country were also up 12%, the most popular models being the spacious Tahoe and Suburban full size SUVs, and the tough, midsize Trailblazer SUV.

The performance from the Oman market has worked to bolster Chevrolet's overall profitability in the region. The brand enjoyed 9% sales growth across the Middle East for March. Car sales in the region were up 11% and truck sales grew a healthy 9% last month.
