Eisenach Plant Director
Since February 2014, Elvira Tölkes is director of the Opel plant in Eisenach. Previously she held the title of plant director for the engine and component plan in Kaiserslautern.
Born in 1966 in Bitburg, the graduated engineer began her Opel career in 1992 after completing her studies in mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. She built on her academic qualification by conducting a training program at the German transport ministry in Bonn. Tölkes also took part in an executive traineeship at General Motors in North America.
During her time with Opel in Rüsselsheim between 1998 and 2011, Tölkes held several leadership positions. First as a manager and later as a director, she was responsible for issues such as regulations and environmental strategies. Her tasks included the development and implementation of emissions reduction strategies as well as the vehicle type approval of European General Motors vehicles. As of 2003, Tölkes worked as a director in the areas of future development, program management and vehicle validation. She was also active as a director in the areas of vehicle interior development and safety at the headquarter in Rüsselsheim. Overall, this meant that she was heavily involved in the development of all current Opel vehicles.
