ZURICH – The third-generation CTS sedan has a commanding road presence and offers premium convenience, thanks to an all-new design that is longer, lower and leaner than its predecessor. Based on the high-performing rear-drive architecture of the award-winning ATS sport sedan, it will enable Cadillac to move right into the heart of the prestigious class of upper midsize premium sedans.
“The all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan delivers crafted design, thrilling performance and sophisticated technology,” said Tom Anliker, Managing Director of Cadillac Europe. “The car that has always been Cadillac’s centerpiece stretches figuratively and literally to challenge the best in its class.”
“With Cadillac growing globally, driven by rising product credibility, the new CTS elevates the brand to a new level,” Anliker added.
Powerful stance meets crafted design
The longer, lower and more athletic-looking proportions introduced on Cadillac’s landmark sedan are key contributors to the car’s lean aesthetics and front-to-rear harmony. They are a reflection of the car’s performance characteristics and technical refinement.
A distinct, aggressive hood design with a larger grille and Cadillac crest, short overhangs and a sharply swept-back windshield are among the defining exterior features of the new Cadillac CTS.
Cadillac’s shield grille and signature vertical lighting elements, including LED front lighting detail, have evolved on the CTS. The grille is wider with a more detailed texture, while the headlamps flow up with the hood line, incorporating crystalline LED light guides for a technologically advanced appearance with more uniform illumination.
LED lighting is also used to illuminate the door handles when the parked car is unlocked, in the center-high-mounted stop-light at the rear, and the passenger compartment.
A roomier driver-centric cockpit with integrated technology and hand-crafted appointments complements the exterior elements. Customers may choose between a selection of interior environments, trimmed with authentic wood, carbon fiber or aluminum.
Heated and ventilated front seats made from leather are standard on all trim levels in Europe, as are four-way manual head rests. New 20-way adjustable power front seats are also available, depending on the trim level.
There are two displays: an eight-inch screen in the center stack connects the driver with the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system, while a 12.3-inch display in the instrument panel provides critical vehicle data.
Occupants will appreciate various storage and convenience features, including:
Lightweight architecture is key to CTS’ impressive performance
In Europe, the 2014 CTS comes with a 2.0L engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged gasoline unit develops 276 hp at 5,500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 3,000 and 4,500 rpm.
The all-new CTS sedan weighs 128 kg less than the outgoing model and has a near perfect 50/50 weight balance. The strategic application of lightweight feature includes door, bumper and instrument panel structures made from aluminum, as well as a full aluminum hood. For the first time on the CTS, Magnetic Ride Control, Cadillac’s ultra-precise real-time damping system, is a standard feature on all models.
The new Cadillac CTS outperforms key competitors in critical areas. In addition to delivering the greatest power output, it also boasts more torque than any of its immediate competitors, and the best kg/hp ratio among the 4-cylinder petrol engines in its class.
Its low mass, standard Brembo front brakes and as well as the optimal brake size give the CTS sedan an excellent braking performance.
Further suspension and driver control highlights include:
Sophisticated technology provides rock solid safety
The CTS sedan blends comfort, convenience and safety technologies with the interior hand-crafted appointments and flowing design. A host of available active safety features provides alerts, intervening when necessary to help avoid crashes.
At the core of the CTS’s intuitive technologies is the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) and its eight-inch high-resolution color touch screen.
CUE brings the convenience of smart devices to the automotive world, allowing users easy and safe access to music, phone and state-of-the-art navigation.
CUE boasts many automotive firsts, such as proximity sensing, haptic feedback and multi-touch gestures. Through CUE, personal devices – such as smart phones and USB sticks – can be connected, allowing users full access to play lists, phone lists and more.
Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition is standard with CUE, along with USB and SD card ports.
A 12.3-inch high-resolution, configurable LCD instrument cluster display complements the CUE screen and supports the CTS’ active safety features. It replaces analog gauges with fully reconfigurable cluster layouts, allowing users to personalize the information and level of detail they require.
The system offers drivers four cluster layouts – from basic to performance-oriented – each delivering bold, crisp graphics tailored to the level of vehicle information desired. A full-color, configurable head-up display is also available.
The new CTS sedan features 10 air bags as standard, including front-passenger dual-stage low-risk deployment, which makes the most of the air bag trajectory and inflation rate based on the occupant’s size, position and the severity of the crash.
Automatic seat belt tightening as well as an active pedestrian protection system are also standard. If a collision occurs and a pedestrian makes contact with the vehicle, the hood’s active hinges are deployed to create additional under-hood crush space. This significantly reduces the chance of bodily impact with harder components located under the hood, such as the engine block.
A Driver Awareness Package, standard from Luxury trim upward, includes Cadillac’s patented Safety Alert Seat technology. It uses vibrating pulses in the driver’s seat to alert the driver to an imminent collision or to vehicles in the car’s blind spot. The package also includes:
The new CTS sedan is the first Cadillac to offer Automatic Parking Assist, which enables the car to park itself in parallel spaces. It uses ultrasonic sensors to locate a suitable space and maneuver the car into the space, with the driver only required to engage reverse and apply the accelerator and brake pedals.
The new CTS arrives in European Showrooms as of early 2014.
