Fact file: Chevrolet Aveo hatchback
'Hot-hatch' style in small car segment
- Segment: Small
- In the model range since: Summer 2011
The Chevrolet Aveo has benefited from an extensive development program, resulting in a small car that meets European drivers' tastes both in terms of design and driving dynamics. Reminiscent of the Spark mini car, the Aveo hatchback appeals particularly to younger customers with its sporty hot-hatch look.
Striking design elements include the aggressive looking front with its exposed twin-headlamps and dual-port grille, compact taut body panels with a rising shoulder line, 'hidden' rear door handles in the C-pillar, and a 'body in wheels out' profile.
The Aveo hatchback has a spacious interior and provides generous cargo volume. Chevrolet ice-blue backlighting features on the center console while the whole of the front cabin is enveloped in a wrap-around fascia. The cabin has two glove-boxes, the second one of which is located in the mid-instrument panel and has outlets for USB and auxiliary devices for discreet connectivity of various electronic appliances. All devices can be operated through the steering wheel controls or radio interfaces and Bluetooth functionality.
Higher trims are offered with the Chevrolet MyLink connected radio. Chevrolet MyLink technology aggregates content from smartphones onto a seven-inch diagonal, high-resolution, full-color touch-screen display and provides easy access to phone books, personal playlists, photo galleries and videos, and other stored media and data. The touch- screen can is connected to a rearview camera, which makes maneuvering in and out of tight parking spaces safer and more comfortable.
Compatible devices can be connected via USB or Bluetooth. The Chevrolet MyLink radio in the Aveo supports the BringGo navigation app, which can be downloaded onto compatible smartphones, as well as the TuneIn and Stitcher apps. TuneIn and Stitcher connect customers to a wide range of radio stations, podcasts and news. In addition to that, owners of an iPhone (as of 4S) are able to use Siri, an intelligent assistant that helps get things done just by asking.
The Aveo's chassis has been fine tuned to meet European tastes with a ride and handling ratio that combines comfort with responsiveness. Electronic stability control (ESC), Hill-Start Assist (HSA), Traction Control (TC) and ABS brakes are standard. The Aveo hatchback was awarded a top five-star safety rating and named the safest car in its class in 2011 by the European New Car Assessment Program (EuroNCAP).
The Aveo's gasoline engine range includes two 1.2L versions (at 70 hp and at 86 hp), a 1.4L unit (100 hp) and a 1.6L engine (115 hp). All manual transmission variants have five speeds and can be equipped to include Start/Stop and electric power steering.
Aveo is also offered with a 1.3L turbo-diesel engine with standard Start/Stop, a high-performance common-rail fuel injection system and an advanced turbocharger with intercooler. When equipped with the 95-hp 5-speed manual transmission variant of the 1.3L diesel, the Aveo hatchback emits 95 g of CO2 per kilometer.
