Fact file: Chevrolet Cruze hatchback
Exceptional value and unique style in compact segment
- Segment: Compact
- In the model range since: Summer 2011
The Cruze hatchback has the same qualities associated with the slightly longer sedan, sedan, while offering customers an alternative body style to the award-winning four-door – one of Chevrolet's best-selling nameplate globally.
Sporting an attractive sloping roofline, concave shoulder lines that run along the sides of the car, and short front and rear overhangs, the Cruze hatchback conveys the same dynamic stance as the sedan.
Six engines are offered on the Cruze hatchback – five gasoline engines and two diesels. Since 2012, a 1.7L diesel and a 140 hp 1.4L turbo gasoline engine complement the proven line-up of 1.6 and 1.8L gasoline and 2.0L turbo-diesel units.
The 2.0L turbo diesel engine displays impressive fuel economy – 4.8 liters/100 km on a combined cycle – and has a maximum power output of 163 hp at 3,800 rpm. The most frugal of all engines, however, is the 1.7L diesel, which is available with an output of either 110 hp (81 kW) or 130 hp (96 kW). On a combined cycle, the former consumes 3.9 liters per 100 kilometers while emitting 104 g of CO2 per km. The 1.4L turbo gasoline, the 1.7 and 2.0L diesel engines all come with Start/Stop functionality.
Chevrolet's traditional dual cockpit, flowing, uninterrupted lines and tight gap tolerances are the main characteristics of the Cruze hatchback's interior. The Chevrolet Cruze offers more amenities and technology features than any previous GM compact car in the value segment. Aux audio connections for iPod/MP3 are standard, optional comfort features may include an SD card-updated navigation system, USB audio connectivity and steering wheel audio controls. A rearview camera is also available.
On higher trims, customers can select between two versions of the Chevrolet MyLink connected radio. Chevrolet MyLink technology aggregates content from smartphones onto a high-resolution, full-color touch-screen display and provides easy access to phone books, personal playlists, photo galleries and/or videos, and other stored media and data. MyLink radios offer access to specialized apps, such as BringGo navigation, voice recognition and streaming audio. Compatible devices can be connected via USB or Bluetooth.
The Cruze hatchback comes with standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control (TC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), and 6 airbags. Higher trim levels incorporate a safety feature called Side Blind Zone Alert, which spots approaching vehicles in the side blind zone by means of radar.
Key to the car's safety architecture, but also to its ride and handling quality, is its highly rigid body structure with strategically applied high-strength steels.
