SAIC General Motors
Julian Blissett was appointed executive vice president of SAIC General Motors (SAIC-GM), GM’s flagship joint venture in China, effective May 1, 2014. He also serves as a member of the SAIC-GM Executive Committee.
Blissett was previously vice president of New Business Development and Alliances for GM International Operations (GMIO) since December 2011. Based in Shanghai, China, he supervised the growth of GM’s alliances and other partnerships across the region while exploring new business opportunities.
Blissett had previously served as GMIO executive director of Manufacturing Engineering since March 2010. He earlier was deputy executive director of Manufacturing at SAIC-GM since 2006.
In 1996, Blissett began his career with GM as Central Engineering manager for Opel Polska. From 1999 to 2001, he held a number of managerial positions at Opel Polska, including manager of General Assembly and director of Manufacturing. In 2001, he was appointed assistant plant manager of the Luton Plant for IBC Vehicles Ltd. in the U.K. Before relocating to Shanghai, he was assistant plant manager and later plant director of Vauxhall Motors’ Ellesmere Port Plant in the U.K.
Prior to joining GM, Blissett worked for Nissan Motor Manufacturing U.K. Ltd. for eight years in manufacturing engineering and production leadership in the U.K. and Japan.
Blissett holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and business studies from Sheffield Hallam University in the U.K. and is a Charted Engineer of the Institute of Electrical Engineers.
