GM China Advanced Design Center
Wulin Gaowa was appointed the first design director of the GM China Advanced Design Center, effective September 5, 2011. She is based at the GM China Advanced Technical Center in Shanghai.
Gaowa had served as advanced design director, Team Exterior Design and Interior, at the Beijing Automotive Technology Center since January 2010.
Gaowa began her automotive design career with DaimlerChrysler in 2000 as an intern. In 2003, she joined the Mercedes-Benz Technology Center in Sindelfingen, Germany, as an automobile designer in the Advanced Design Department.
In 2005, Gaowa shifted to BenQ-Siemens Mobile in Beijing, where she worked at the Mobile Phone Technical Development Center as category product manager. The following year, she became a lecturer in transportation design at the Design College of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
She moved to Moncarieri, Italy, in 2008 with Italdesign Giugiaro. Gaowa was an automobile exterior designer, assisting with projects for Volkswagen, FAW, Lamborghini and Frazer-Nash.
Gaowa has a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from the Central Academy of Arts and Design in Beijing and a master’s degree in transportation design from Fachhochschule Pforzheim in Germany. She was named one of the 10 Best Young Designers of China 2010 by the China Industrial Design Association. She earlier received the award for Best Design for Future Economical Vehicles for China from Mercedes-Benz Design in Germany.
