Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC)

Mark D. LaBaere has served as president of the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), GM’s automotive engineering and design joint venture with SAIC, since August 15, 2013. He is based in Shanghai, China.

LaBaere joined General Motors in 1989 as a project engineer in Warren, Michigan. He was named a staff project engineer at GM Europe in 1998. Four years later, he moved to GM of Canada as an assistant staff engineer. LaBaere became an engineering supervisor at GM’s Global Product Operations in 2005. He later was a technical assistant in Global Product Development and senior manager in Global Manufacturing Engineering.

He moved to Shanghai in July 2011, serving as director of Body/Exterior for PATAC and chief engineer of PATAC’s Liuzhou branch.

LaBaere has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree in manufacturing management from GMI Engineering and Management Institute (now Kettering University).
