Director, China Science Lab
John Du is director of GM China’s China Science Lab in Shanghai. He oversees research and technology development in a wide range of areas related to the automotive industry, including advanced clean internal combustion engine and transmission system technology, battery cell materials and fabrication, next-generation lightweight materials, advanced manufacturing processes, urban traffic, driving and safety, and human machine interface systems. He also leads the Advanced Technology Management group, coordinating all advanced technical work in China and strategic technology collaboration with the Chinese government, top Chinese universities, national laboratories and suppliers.
Du joined GM with 20 years of experience, including 15 years at Intel, where he served as general manager of Intel's China Research Center.
Du received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering in 1983, 1986 and 1989, respectively. He has over 15 years of technical and management experience in computing architecture, networking, mobile wireless, communications and system areas. Du holds four patents and has written technical publications in the areas of computing network communications and signal processing.
