Chevrolet Spark Mini-Car Production Exceeds 1 Million Units

  • GM Korea’s Changwon plant began producing the Spark in 2009
  • Spark is sold in more than 150 markets

Seoul – General Motors announced today that more than 1 million Chevrolet Sparks have been produced since it began manufacturing the current generation of mini-car in 2009.

As of the end of September, total 1,013,930 units of the Spark had been produced to address the growing mini car market globally. The plant in Changwon, Korea has been the lead manufacturing site.

“This is an important milestone that demonstrates how GM is rolling out products that our customers truly want,” said GM Korea President and CEO Sergio Rocha. “The Spark has contributed to the growth of the Chevrolet brand around the world with its innovative design and practicality and the highest level of safety in its segment.”

The Spark development was led by GM's global product development center in Incheon, Korea. It is now being sold in more than 150 markets around the world, including Europe, Asia and the U.S.

The Spark earned a five-star (★★★★★) rating in the Korean New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP) in 2010. Ward’s Auto also declared the Spark as having one of the 10 Best Interiors of 2013.
