YANGON, MYANMAR - Chevrolet and Pacific Alpine Pte. Ltd. announced plans today to launch a three-tier corporate social responsibility (CSR) program in Myanmar next month. All three projects represent the Chevrolet brand platform, “Find New Roads,” by helping build communities through education and technology.

The first tier is a One World Futbol Project (OWFP) initiative. OWFP’s mission is to use footballs to resolve conflicts, teach tolerance, help children recover from trauma and build communities through the power of sport and play. As founding sponsor, Chevrolet has partnered with OWFP to deliver 1.5 million ultra-durable footballs over the space of three years to impoverished communities, refugee camps and conflict zones worldwide. More than 5,000 footballs will be distributed throughout Myanmar from August through the end of 2013.

The second tier is Find New Roads – Chevy Cares. Chevrolet vehicles will be loaned free of charge for five months to eight charitable organizations in Myanmar. The Find New Roads – Chevy Cares vehicles will allow these organizations to expand their services to more people over a larger geographic area. The selected organizations will be announced in September.

The third tier is education and training. Based on a program that has been successful in Thailand, Chevrolet and Pacific Alpine will donate engines and technical parts to mechanical training colleges in Myanmar. This will enable students to receive more practical hands-on training by using actual engines and up-to-date technologies.

Martin Apfel, President of GM Southeast Asia Operations, said: “This program is part of Chevrolet's philosophy of investing in the communities where it does business. It is especially important in Myanmar, where there is a need for community development support as the country undergoes a significant transition."

Apfel added, “I am especially pleased we will work with our distribution partner, Pacific Alpine Pte. Ltd., which has a developed network and local expertise. We look forward to a long and successful partnership both with Pacific Alpine and with the people and communities of Myanmar.”

General Motors Southeast Asia Operations recently signed a letter of intent with Pacific Alpine Pte. Ltd. for the distribution, sales and service of Chevrolet vehicles in Myanmar. The first Chevrolet showroom will be launched in Yangon later this year.
