DUBAI – Chevrolet sales in the United Arab Emirates, the brand’s third largest market in the Middle East, rose 19 percent year-on-year in June as dealers recorded their best June sales month since 2008.
Chevrolet passenger car sales jumped 18 percent year-on-year as figures for the Cruze compact car, the brand’s best-selling passenger car around the world, soared 82 percent while the eighth generation Malibu jumped 18 percent. Sales of the Camaro sports car climbed by 17 percent in June compared to the same period last year.
Sales of SUVs, crossovers and pick-ups rose 21 percent in the UAE, boosted by the Tahoe which increased 17 percent year-on-year. Dealers recorded their best June sales month since 2009 for the full-size SUV, which is long revered in the Middle East for its capability and dependability, combined with a luxury interior and a host of advanced safety features.
“The Chevrolet brand recorded an excellent sales month in the UAE in June and in the second quarter of 2013,” said John Stadwick, President and Managing Director of General Motors Middle East.
“I am confident that the brand’s sales will be boosted further this year, both in the UAE and in the Middle East, by the newly launched Impala,” he added.
Sales of the 2014 Impala, the brand’s new flagship full-size sedan, began in the region in June.
Chevrolet sales in the second quarter of 2013 climbed 17 percent year-on-year in the UAE, with passenger cars rising 22 percent and SUVs, crossovers and pick-ups increasing 10 percent.
Malibu sales rose 96 percent, sales of the Cruze jumped 24 percent and figures for the Camaro advanced 21 percent. Meanwhile, sales of the Tahoe climbed by 6 percent compared to the second quarter of 2012.
