GM Leads Eight Segments in J.D. Power
Dependability Study Number of GM’s Top Rankings Exceed That of
Any Other Automaker
Dubai, United Arab Emirates –19 July
2005 – Following best-ever results reported in June in J.D. Power
and Associates’ Initial Quality Study, General Motors received eight
“Most Dependable” awards and placed 18 vehicles in the top three of
their respective segments – more than any other automaker -- in the 2005
J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study.
Of all brands
participating in the study, Cadillac ranked fifth while Chevrolet received four
segments awards outright – more than any other brand – as well as
placing another three vehicles among the top three in their respective
segments.
"These results serve to cement the fact that GM delivers
vehicles with lasting quality," said Terry Johnsson, Managing Director, General
Motors. "It is extremely gratifying to see that a number of models which are
popular with consumers in the Arab world were rated so highly by this important
third party industry analyst."
Segment award winners included the
Cadillac Escalade EXT (Light Duty Full-Size Pickup), Chevrolet Silverado HD
(Heavy Duty Full-Size Pickup) and GMC Yukon and GMC Suburban (Full-Size
SUV).
Measuring problem symptoms, such as malfunctions, noise, vibration
and harshness, driveability, dependability and safety, of three year-old
vehicles (2002 model year), the J.D. Power and Associates 2005 Vehicle
Dependability Study is one of three J.D. Power and Associates quality
metrics, along with the Initial Quality Study, which measures quality after 90
days of ownership, and the Automotive, Performance, Execution and Layout Study,
which measures customer perceptions on the design, content, layout and
