MANSFIELD, Ohio – General Motors today announced it will invest approximately $400,000 in its Mansfield Metal Center for future stamping work. The announcement was made by GM North America manufacturing manager Jim DeLuca during an employee meeting at the plant.
“This is great news for our facility,” said plant manager Don Wine, “New investment in Mansfield means our employees will continue to have an important role in manufacturing GM’s quality cars and trucks. The investment being made in Mansfield Metal Center strengthens our core stamping capabilities in the United States and in the state of Ohio.”
The investment will primarily be used for machine upgrades and diesets to support fullsize truck and crossover vehicle production.
“GM’s decision to invest in Mansfield Metal Center is proof to our employees and UAW Local 549 that hard work pays off,” said shop chairman Larry Swain. “Our employees are dedicated to doing the right things to help ensure their future at our plant and remain viable in our community.”
Mansfield Metal Center consists of over 2 million sq. ft. of enclosed space. The plant opened for production in 1955 and currently produces major and secondary sheet metal, including doors, roofs, deck lids, liftgates, and quarter panels.
Mansfield Metal Center employs approximately 1,900 employees. Historically, the plant has a long time reputation for being a center of expertise for door stamping production.
