

Jay Cooney was appointed vice president of communications and public policy for GM Daewoo Auto & Technology on January 1, 2008. He is also a member of the GM Daewoo Policy Committee and the General Motors Asia Pacific Communications Strategy Board.
Prior to joining GM Daewoo, Cooney was director of global motor shows for GM Communications, overseeing the creative treatment, strategy and positioning of GM, its vehicles and brands at major shows and events around the world. He earlier served as director of media relations and corporate communications for GM Asia Pacific, working in both Singapore and Shanghai. He also has held the post of director of safety and legal for GM Communications.
Cooney earlier was a member of Chrysler’s communications team in the United States. He also has practiced law in Detroit.
Cooney has a bachelor’s degree in history from Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada, a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and a law degree from The University of Arizona College of Law.
