GM Daewoo operates four manufacturing facilities (Bupyung, Gunsan, Changwon and Boryeong) in Korea as well as an assembly plant (VIDAMCO) in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The Bupyung manufacturing facility began assembling vehicles in 1962. It started engine production in 1972. The Bupyung site is a manufacturing complex that houses GM Daewoo's headquarters, engineering center, design center and manufacturing engineering center. It produces the Kalos, Gentra, Tosca and Winstorm at its two assembly plants. It also operates two engine plants. Its annual production capacity is 440,000 CBU units and 200,000 KD kits. The plant also builds inline four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines and manual transmissions.
Established in 1996, the Gunsan facility produces the Lacetti and Rezzo. It also has a diesel engine plant. The facility has an annual production capacity of 260,000 CBU units and 250,000 diesel engines. Its exclusive pier for vehicle exports, where 50,000-ton ships can dock, gives the Gunsan facility optimal logistics.
The Changwon facility, Korea's first mini-car production center, was established in 1991. It has an annual production capacity of 210,000 CBU units, 140,000 KD kits and 370,000 engines. It builds the Matiz mini-car, Labo mini-commercial truck, Damas mini-commercial van, and three four-cylinder engines and manual transmissions.
Established in 1996, the Boryeong facility is an advanced powertrain plant that produces transmissions, aluminum heads and blocks for inline six-cylinder engines. It was integrated into GM Daewoo in 2004 and will supply advanced six-speed automatic transmissions to GM Daewoo in Korea and GM units around the world.
Established in 1993, VIDAMCO is located in Hanoi, Vietnam. Its annual production capacity is 10,000 passenger vehicles and 500 buses. VIDAMCO assembles the Matiz, Lanos and Gentra. It has a strong presence in Vietnam and has received many awards. VIDAMCO was named Vietnam's Best Enterprise three years in a row (2001-2003) and received a certificate of merit from Vietnam's Ministry of Industry.
The GM Daewoo Cheong-Na Proving Ground, located in the Incheon Free Economic Zone, opened in 2007. It was created to develop new products and carry out research. The proving ground features 36 different roads and road conditions. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as a climatic wind tunnel and a daylight simulation system.
