Statement with respect to speculative article in this week's "Wirtschaftswoche"
Rüsselsheim/Zurich. "Only Adam Opel AG's Supervisory Board can decide on any potential change with respect to the position of Chairman of the Management Board. There is currently no such discussion item foreseen or planned on the agenda of our upcoming meetings", said Hans Barth, Chairman of Adam Opel AG's Supervisory Board with regard to an article in the new issue of the German business magazine "Wirtschaftswoche". The magazine speculated that in the late fall of this year, Opel Chairman and Managing Director Robert W. Hendry would be replaced by a German manager.
GM Europe President Michael J. Burns: "Bob Hendry is driving Opel's unprecedented model and brand offensive relentlessly, and he continues to have Rick Wagoner's and my own full support. Successfully repositioning a European car company in this complex and very competitive market environment requires a tremendous effort and takes time." The intent is that Bob Hendry will continue his contract as Chairman of the Management Board of Adam Opel AG well into the future. Solid business planning requires a thorough and early approach to succession initiatives for all senior executive positions. In his context, the company routinely engages in discussions with suitable management candidates inside as well as outside the company."
