GM Europe Names Jonathan Browning Vice President Sales, Marketing and Aftersales
Nick Reilly to Lead the Daewoo Transition Team
Zurich. Effective December 1, 2001, Jonathan Browning (42) will be appointed General Motors Europe Vice President Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, succeeding Nick Reilly who was named to lead the Daewoo transition team based in South Korea. Following the conclusion of the due diligence phase and if definitive agreements are reached in which GM invests in the formation of a new joint venture company, he will be appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the new company.
Jonathan Browning was most recently Managing Director, Jaguar Cars Ltd., and is returning to General Motors where he had spent his entire career until 1997. Browning joined Vauxhall Motors Ltd., GM's subsidiary in the UK, in 1981 and subsequently served in a number of leadership roles for GM Europe, including Executive Director of Marketing for GME, and Managing Director, General Motors Turkey. In his new role, he will have functional leadership responsibility for sales, marketing, brand integration, aftersales, and the future direction of the distribution network supporting GME's brands. Additionally, he will have operational responsibility for GME's national sales companies. He will also play a key role in implementing significant initiatives within the company's "Olympia" program to return GME to a sales and profit leadership position.
GM Europe President Michael J. Burns noted "we are very excited about Jonathan's return to the GM Europe team. His contributions and his track record in the industry, at GM and outside the company, have been exemplary. We also wish Nick well in his new role and are certain that his extensive experience in the European automotive industry will contribute to his success in GM's anticipated partnership with Daewoo."
Commenting on the moves, Rick Wagoner, President and Chief Executive Officer of General Motors Corporation, said: "These appointments demonstrate the depth of the leadership team we have in place at GM as we continue to grow our global business and extend our global reach. I'm confident Nick's experience and capability will help to assure success in the Daewoo effort for GM and its partners. I'm particularly pleased that Jonathan has decided to rejoin GM to contribute to the turnaround at GM Europe. At this critical stage in the turnaround, his overall industry background and marketing expertise can help accelerate our efforts."
