  • New look front, newly-designed bumpers and upgraded interior
  • Highly efficient: Two new TWINPORT engines, two new common-rail turbodiesels
  • Automated Easytronic transmission now available with four engines
  • ESP and Xenon headlamps available, brake assistant is now a standard feature
  • More attractive with individual options to choose from thanks to new model strategy

Paris. The new version of the Opel Corsa, orderable since June, has been given a major facelift and a whole host of new technical features. Along with the more dynamic design, the highlights include a range of new, highly efficient engines such as two common-rail turbodiesels with 1.3 and 1.7-liter displacement (51 kW/70 hp and 74 kW/100 hp) and a completely newly designed 1.4-liter gasoline unit with TWINPORT technology. Depending on the transmission combination, the Corsa 1.4 TWINPORT (66 kW/90 hp) needs up to 23 percent less fuel than the previous Corsa 1.4 with the same power. The innovative gasoline saving concept from Opel also clearly increases efficiency with the three-cylinder entry level unit. The Corsa 1.0 TWINPORT (44 kW/60 hp) consumes 0.2 liters less fuel per 100 kilometers than the previous 1.0 model, and it also has greater torque and power.

The electric speed-dependent power steering has been retuned and now provides optimized steering precision. Thanks to shorter shifting points the new Corsa has better handling. With an expanded standard equipment line and newly available options such as ESP and Xenon headlamps, the technology in the Opel Corsa is more mature than ever in the third year of sales. With the rear bench both the two-stage lockable seat back and the seat surface can be folded down separately, and even greater flexibility is provided by the 1/3 to 2/3 split which is available as an option (standard feature starting with the Corsa Enjoy model).

The automated manual transmission "Easytronic" is now available for all gasoline engines with up to 1.4 liters displacement and also the new 1.3 CDTI. Besides the highly modern power units, a flexible service interval display also helps lower running costs.

From the outside the new Corsa can be recognized by its modified front and new chrome grille in typical Opel design, larger clear glass headlamps and new color keyed bumpers with black plastic inserts for protection in the event of light collisions. In the interior new upholstery materials and colors provide a fresh ambience. Six new equipment lines are enough to satisfy individual requirements.

New TWINPORT engines and latest-generation common rail diesels

The engine range for the Opel Corsa now includes a total of six four-cylinder engines – four gasoline models and two common rail turbodiesels – ranging from 1.0 to 1.8 liter displacement and 60 to 125 hp.

The innovative TWINPORT concept is now included for gasoline engines in the Corsa program. Opel's intelligent fuel saving technology for four-cylinder gasoline engines with four valves per cylinder and up to 1.6-liter displacement considerably reduces consumption with the help of a variable intake control system and high exhaust gas recirculation rates. The amount of fuel required by the completely newly-designed 1.4 ECOTEC gasoline engine (66 kW/90 hp) with TWINPORT technology is only 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers, which is 0.9 liters or almost 13 percent less than the previous, equally powerful model with a five-speed manual transmission. When compared with the previously available Corsa 1.4 with four-speed automatic transmission, the new TWINPORT version, in combination with the automated manual transmission Easytronic, improves consumption levels by 1.7 liters per 100 kilo-meters, which is more than 23 percent. The already highly economical 44 kW/60 hp 1.0 liter entry level unit now also consumes even less, with the Corsa 1.0 TWINPORT needing only 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers – 0.2 liters less fuel than the previous 1.0-liter model.

Low running costs are also one of the big advantages with the two new CDTI ECOTEC turbodiesels with 1.3 and 1.7 liter displacement. Both diesels have the latest-generation common rail direct injection, and are characterized by low fuel consumption, high pulling power and refined running. The 51 kW/70 hp 1.3 CDTI ECOTEC in the Corsa needs only 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers, and the 1.7 CDTI ECOTEC (74 kW/100 hp) gets by with just 4.8 liters of diesel for the test distance.

Along with the two TWINPORT engines and the 1.2 ECOTEC gasoline unit, the 1.3 CDTI is also available with Easytronic as an alternative to the standard five-speed transmission. The automated manual transmission combines the user-friendliness of an automatic with the sportiness and thriftiness of a manual transmission, and the driver can switch between manual and automatic mode at any time.

Six new equipment packages for all tastes

Opel offers the Corsa with six different equipment packages. As well as the entry level package the "Eco", "Enjoy", "Cosmo", "Sport" and "GSi" lines are also available. With 15 exterior colors, many different options, accessory solutions and five attractive equipment packages, Corsa customers have many options for creating their own individual car.

The Corsa "Eco" is the gasoline-saving master in the Corsa family. Its 1.0 TWINPORT engine with Easytronic and a series of measures to improve rolling resistance and aerodynamics ensure a low fuel consumption level of only 4.8 liters of super per 100 kilometers now.

In the "Enjoy" equipment package fine details enhance the look of the Corsa in the interior. New upholstery materials and colors along with door handles and a handbrake lever knob in matt chrome add to the ambience in the interior. Power windows are also part of the "Enjoy" package. For even greater flexibility the rear bench can be folded down with a 1/3 to 2/3 split.

The Corsa "Cosmo" is equipped with other high-quality details. Color keyed exterior mirrors, door handles and side protection moldings are the external highlights of the top-of-the-line Corsa. Black instruments with silver rings and metallic and chrome elements in the interior give the "Cosmo" line a real high-quality look.

The interior of the Corsa "Sport" also impresses with fine visual details. White instruments and a three-spoke leather steering wheel underline the sporty nature of the vehicle. This also includes a sports chassis and sport seats.

Color keyed bumpers with an integrated chrome sports grille give the Corsa "GSi" an unmistakable appearance. This Corsa model also has color keyed handles and exterior mirrors, sports seats, sill cover, the use of chrome in the interior and a color keyed rear spoiler.

Comprehensive entry-level equipment package upgraded with many new details

The comprehensive standard equipment package for all Corsa variants comes now with a brake assistant which, together with the standard latest-generation ABS, further increases active safety. A "Follow-me-home" light function keeps the lights on for up to 30 seconds after the vehicle has been successfully parked and turned off. As an option Xenon headlamps, the electronic stability program ESP and cruise control are also available. Another special feature is the new 3D ellipsoid H7 headlamps, which are standard on all Corsa Cosmo, Sport and GSi models. Besides improving road visibility they also have a distinct look with three cylindrical lamp bodies for the headlight, high beam, and turn signal.

Low running costs and long service intervals

As well as the low fuel consumption of the modern engines, the low running costs of the Corsa are also aided by its repair and service-friendly design, and long service intervals (2 years / gasoline: 30.000 km; diesel: 50.000 km). The new flexible service interval display takes into consideration each driver's individual driving profile and displays in the cockpit when the next service is due.

The Opel Corsa is one of the safest cars in its category

In a series of crash tests carried out in 2002 by the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club (ÖAMTC), in co-operation with the ADAC and other European automotive clubs, the Opel Corsa proved to be the best of seven small cars tested. The behavior in the event of a frontal collision and side impact was tested in accordance with Euro NCAP test conditions. The Opel Corsa amassed a total of 29 points in the front and side crashes giving it, along with the Toyota Yaris, the best result. "The homogeneous front end on the Opel Corsa deflects the impact force to a broad area of the sturdy passenger cell. The airbags provide ideal support for the head, neck and chest to the driver and front-seat passenger," the ÖAMTC said. Overall, the Austrian automotive club gave the Corsa a very good passenger protection rating. In the tenth crash test series of Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) the Corsa received four stars, once again designating it as one of the safest vehicles in its class.

Even the entry-level equipment package for the Corsa takes all essential safety aspects into consideration. Besides a computer-calculated safety passenger cell this includes full-size front and side airbags for the driver and front seat passenger. The Corsa can also be ordered in all variants with full-size head curtain airbags along with active head restraints. With the Corsa GSi this additional protection is part of the standard equipment. Both the three-door and the five-door models feature two head restraints in the rear as standard equipment. Automatically disengaging pedals (PRS, Pedal Release System) also help reduce the risk of injury to the driver's legs in the event of a serious collision. The two outer rear seats have ISOFIX fixtures for a child's seat. The self-stabilizing DSA (Dynamic Safety) chassis with a McPherson-type front axle with hydroformed subframe also adds to the high level of safety in the Corsa.
