37 years of service to the company
Wolfgang Strinz Leaves Opel Board of Managment
New Position on Supervisory Board
Rüsselsheim. At its meeting today the Supervisory Board of Adam Opel AG accepted a request from Wolfgang Strinz (63) to be relieved of his duties as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management and Director of Manufacturing with effect from July 31, 2001. In order to give the company continued access to Strinz's considerable experience and capabilities, General Motors as the shareholder proposes to appoint him to the Supervisory Board of Adam Opel AG at the next general meeting. The Supervisory Board will make a decision shortly regarding Strinz's successor on the Board of Management.
Carl-Peter Forster, Chairman of the Board of Management of Adam Opel AG, said:
"In the past twenty years of his activity on behalf of Adam Opel AG, which goes back no fewer than 37 years in all, Wolfgang Strinz managed a variety of major development and restructuring programs all over Europe and brought them to a successful conclusion. His wealth of experience and his human qualities would have made him a key player in my plans for the reorientation of our company. However, I also appreciate that following such a long period of unceasing commitment to Opel, he now wishes to devote more time to his family and his other interests. I very much regret the departure of Wolfgang Strinz from my senior management team."
Hans Barth, Chairman of the Adam Opel AG Supervisory Board, commented: "In the course of a long period of close cooperation in an atmosphere of trust I have shared many an experience with Wolfgang Strinz and greatly value his skills, his personal integrity and his almost limitless dedication to our company's interests. His decision represents a loss for the Opel Board of Management, but an undoubted gain for the Supervisory Board. I look forward to this renewed opportunity to work with him."
