NV1500 Transmission (MW2) Features & Benefits

OVERVIEW
New Venture Gear's NV1500 (MW2) is a robust five-speed manual transmission used in four cylinder S-truck applications. Introduced for the 1996 model year, the unit has received excellent warranty and customer satisfaction ratings. It provides smooth shifting and low shift efforts consistent with customer expectations.

CONTINUING FEATURES AND BENEFITS

FULLY SYNCHRONIZED, HELICAL MESH GEARING

The NV1500 uses helical-type gears, with gear teeth cut at an angle and with a slight curve. This means that as the gears mesh, the teeth gradually roll together (instead of contacting all at once across the whole face of the gear tooth, as with straight-cut gears). This greatly reduces noise.

The gearbox also is fully synchronized, with synchronizer rings employed during all shifts to speed up or slow down the gear faces to ensure smooth gear engagement and easy operation.

DUAL-CONE SYNCHRONIZERS IN 1st AND 2nd GEARS
Dual-cone synchronizers have friction material on both sides of the synchronizer rings. The extra friction material shares in the workload of accelerating and decelerating driven gears to the desired speed, thus providing higher energy capacity for shifts. This results in decreased shift effort.

WIDE GEAR-RATIO COVERAGE
The NV1500 five-speed features gear ratio coverage of 3.96:1 (first gear) to 0.83:1 (overdrive fifth gear). The low first gear provides strong torque for launch, while the overdrive fifth gear provides excellent fuel economy while cruising at high speeds.

LOW MAINTENANCE
The 3T40 uses GM's long-life DEXRON-III transmission fluid, which needs replacing only after 100,000 miles.
