CAVALIER AND SUNFIRE BECOME STREET MACHINES, THANKS TO GM OFFICIAL LICENSED PRODUCTS

LAS VEGAS — Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire have already hit a homerun with today’s youth. Credit goes to their ability to deliver performance and good looks in a value-filled package. For those customers looking to add a degree of personalization to their vehicles, General Motors Official Licensed Products are just the ticket, as evidenced by the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire exhibited at this year’s SEMA show.

"Cavalier and Sunfire are both targeted at the youth market. This is the next generation of hot rodders and car enthusiasts and they express their unique lifestyles through their vehicles," said Keith Newbury, assistant brand manager-product, Chevrolet Cavalier.

"The Cavalier and Sunfire we are presenting at SEMA are much more than design exercises," added Letty Larkin, assistant brand manager-product, Pontiac Sunfire. "These vehicles are examples of what our customers can do with GM Official Licensed Products."

Because the fastest way to an enthusiast’s heart is through enhanced performance, Cavalier and Sunfire feature a supercharged 2.4-liter, twin-cam engine. It produces 190 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 205 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm, with a maximum boost pressure at 5 psi. The supercharger is a Series 45 Eaton with an internal release-valve design.

To customers in this market, a vehicle’s looks are as important as its performance. GM Official Licensed Products responded with a host of exterior products sure to help any Cavalier or Sunfire customer draw more than his or her fair share of attention.

As seen from the rear-view mirror of another vehicle, Cavalier and Sunfire feature a ground effects package consisting of a front air dam fascia extension and rocker moldings. Cavalier features integrated fog lamps and Sunfire features a ram-air-type hood bulge, providing an even more aggressive appearance.

With the vehicles side by side, the graphics packages are prominently displayed, beginning at the front of the vehicle and gradually sweeping to the rear fascia. Flames are featured on Cavalier, and waves on Sunfire. Both cars have custom chrome alloy wheels, 16-inch performance tires and carbon-fiber exterior mirrors.

Inside, Cavalier and Sunfire feature custom seat covers with gray bolsters. Sunfire features red seats (complementing the red exterior color), while Cavalier features leather red and white seat covers that accentuate the white exterior color. Black-on-white gauges reward both Cavalier and Sunfire drivers with a quick read of vehicle functions. A carbon-fiber interior trim is featured on Sunfire, while Cavalier features luminescent trim around the bezel and door handles.

As Cavalier and Sunfire move confidently (and quickly) ahead, other drivers are left to appreciate the rear fascia extensions, the wing on the trunk lid with integrated spoiler and Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) and chrome exhaust tips (single on Cavalier, quad on Sunfire).

"Cavalier and Sunfire have the styling and performance demanded by this target audience," said Newbury. "With minor revisions from GM Official Licensed Products, these vehicles change from mild-mannered production machines to outstanding boulevard racers."

"Best of all, all of the accessories included in these vehicles will be readily available at GM dealerships. The Cavalier and Sunfire featured at SEMA demonstrate GM’s commitment to providing factory-engineered products for this market," added Larkin.
