CAVALIER Z24 CONCEPTS - TWO TIMES THE FUN
LAS VEGAS - Fact: The Chevrolet Cavalier is General Motors' best-selling passenger car (over 272,000 units were purchased in 1999). Fact: Cavalier is targeted at the youthful 18-25 market. Fact: This group loves to personalize and accessorize their vehicle. Fact: The new Cavalier Z24, debuting at this year's SEMA show, gives this group two choices and a lot more fun.
"The Cavalier Z24 concepts show the potential that is within these vehicles," said Keith Newbury, Cavalier assistant brand manager, product. "The sedan takes the Z24 concept car and moves it one step further with powertrain enhancements. The coupe showcases the street-performance potential of the next generation four-cylinder EcoTec engine."
Cavalier Z24 Sedan Concept
For those who had to pass on the Z24 Coupe simply because they needed another set of doors, Chevy introduces the Cavalier Z24 Sedan concept. This concept takes all of the performance, looks, and fun-to-drive attributes of the Z24 Coupe one step further.
The Cavalier Z24 Sedan concept is powered by a 16-valve, DOHC, 2.4-liter engine that produces 206 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 183 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. The Indigo Blue sedan features an independent McPherson strut front suspension, coil-over-shock rear suspension, and front and rear sway bars. Rack and pinion steering is precise // and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS provide controlled stops. The Z24 sedan is 1¾ inches lower than the production model, which, combined with the composite front and rear fascia extensions and rocker moldings, creates a "hugging the road" appearance. Z24 sedan's racing appearance is further accentuated by the stainless steel exhaust system with polished tip. This vehicle rides on Goodyear Eagle speed-rated 17 tires that are mounted on 17"x 7" aluminum wheels, stopped by cross-drilled, zinc-washed Baer Racing brake rotors and single-piston aluminum calipers. Body-color mirrors, door handles and rear spoiler complete Z24 sedan's exterior appearance.
Inside, this special-edition Cavalier features front and rear seats trimmed in tan cloth with tan Chevy bow tie inserts and carbon-fiber appearance cluster trim bezel. A current production six speaker audio system with amplified woofer speakers is designed for young buyer listening tastes.
"Cavalier Z24 Sedan shows that entry level sedans can be exciting and relevant to the youth enthusiast along with the naturally aspirated performance potential of the 2.4L Twin Cam engine," said Newbury.
Cavalier Z24R Coupe Concept
The Dynasty Red coupe is as hot as its looks, thanks to a supercharged, 16-valve 2.2-liter EcoTec engine. This Z24 demonstrates the performance potential of our next generation four cylinder powertrain. It produces 262.6 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 228 lb-ft of torque at 5500 rpm. The "roots" type supercharger features a liquid-to-air cooler system, consisting of:
· A charge cooler core · Cast aluminum inlet and outlet tanks with structural mounting supports · A Jabsco circulation pump · A fabricated aluminum reservoir · A Superior charge coolant radiator mounted in front of the A/C condenser and plumbed with Aeroquip steel-braided hose and fittings
Cavalier Z24 Coupe has also been lowered 1¾ inches and features composite front and rear valances, 17-inch, speed-rated Goodyear tires and 17-inch aluminum wheels. Cross-drilled, zinc-washed Baer Racing brake rotors and dual-piston aluminum calipers enhance the vehicle's appearance and braking performance. Side mirrors, door handles, valances, rear spoiler and a rear fascia that has been modified to accommodate the 3.5-inch exhaust tip are painted in the monochromatic Dynasty Red with contrasting glass flake.
