TEAM GT TRACKER DRIVES HOME CHEVY TRUCKS’ SUPPORT OF BMX RACING WORLD CHAMPIONS

LAS VEGAS –The words "let it ride" are heard with some frequency in Las Vegas. At the Chevy Trucks display during the 2000 SEMA show here, the Team GT Tracker gives the phrase a whole new meaning. The compact sport-utility vehicle, which began life as a stock Tracker ZR2, salutes Team GT, sponsored by Chevy Trucks and Chevy Tracker. Team GT is the top team in the world of BMX bike racing.

Accompanying the Team GT Tracker to the SEMA show, perched triumphantly atop the truck, is the bike that Team GT’s Thomas Allier rode to victory in the 2000 UCI World BMX Championships in Argentina in July. As in previous years, the riders of Team GT led the team competition.

"We sponsor Team GT because they’re like Chevrolet—they’re authentic and durable," said Tom Suman, Chevrolet Tracker assistant brand manager-marketing. "They’re the top team in BMX, with the top male and female riders and the most world championships. They just go out and win. They’re the real deal, a perfect fit for Tracker."

The Team GT Tracker arrived in Vegas clad sharply in a jet-black coat of paint, with lively Team GT graphics. Modifications from GM SPO include a black roof bike rack, black rear assist step, black tubular side steps and black front brush guard. In the premium interior, the GT logo is stitched neatly into the leather headrests.

Custom fog lights, LT-235 75R 15 All Terrain Goodrich T/A tires and Enkei Plainsman 15X6 wheels add to the Team GT Tracker’s mystique. So does the special chrome-tipped stacked dual exhaust, which gives the 2.5-liter aluminum-block V6 a throaty growl.

The 2001 four-door Chevy Tracker ZR2 comes standard with a V6 engine, automatic transmission and air conditioning. It also features shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive and an off-road package including wheel flares, a wider track with P215/75R-15 all-season tires and 15-inch alloy wheels, skid plates, integral mud flaps, ZR2 charcoal surround and chrome center bar grille, and a vinyl spare tire cover. Its interior includes standard power windows, mirrors and door locks with remote keyless entry and an AM/FM Cassette Radio, plenty of storage spots and an auxiliary power outlet in the center console.
