SUBURBAN RT – GETTING THERE IS THE MOST FUN
LAS VEGAS - The majority of Suburban owners have families and many hours have been spent in their Suburbans on family vacations. Chevrolet wanted to make the trip from home to the ultimate destination as pleasurable as possible. The result is the Suburban RT (Road Trip) concept, introduced at this year’s SEMA show.
"In creating the Suburban RT, our goal was to develop a vehicle to support the very active lifestyle of Suburban owners. We wanted to give Suburban families a vehicle that combines individual entertainment and interaction. With Suburban RT, getting there is half the fun," said Mike Weidman, Suburban assistant brand manager, marketing.
The entertainment quotient is high with Suburban RT. It’s equipped with two VCRs – one each for the second- and third-row seats – as well as a DVD player, to while away the hours. Second- and third-row passengers can also pass the time playing with a video game system. It features wireless controllers, allowing play from up to 25 feet away. When the controllers are not being used, they can be neatly stored in the drawers located under the second-row seats. The flat video screens are removable and wireless, enabling participants to take the action outdoors when the vehicle is parked. Suburban RT also features two stereo sound systems with CD players, allowing for personal listening pleasure. Headphone jacks enhance the overall entertainment experience and the headphones can be stored under the third-row seats when not in use.
Suburban RT also promotes interaction among its passengers. For meals, perishable food items are stored in a on-board refrigerator – integrated in the driver’s rear side quarter trim panel – and cooked in the microwave conveniently found under the instrument panel. An AC/DC converter allows both appliances to function while the vehicle is operational. Folding Corian trays are incorporated into the rear panels of each front seat and provide a greater degree of convenience for the second- and third-row seat passengers.
When it’s time for less technology-intensive entertainment, Suburban RT provides a small table – stored between the third-row bench seat – which can be moved forward and placed in the center of the vehicle. The table can be used to play various games like cards, chess or checkers. The magnetic chess pieces (half in dark blue-green and half in taupe light gray) reflect the interior color scheme, which is richly appointed in leather.
Suburban RT features four bucket seats – including the front passenger seat which can swivel 180 degrees – and a third-row seat uniquely sculpted to resemble bucket seats, reinforcing the interior theme of creating a personal environment for each passenger. The seating configuration creates a unique walkway through the center of the vehicle, allowing for ease of travel while the vehicle is parked.
"In Suburban RT, we have created a vehicle that provides entertainment for the kids, convenience and comfort for the parents. With this vehicle, the fun begins long before the destination is reached," said Weidman.
