Gay G. Tosch
GM Europe Vice President, Human Resources
Gay Tosch was appointed Vice President, Human Resources, for GM Europe on January 1, 2006. In this capacity, she is responsible for all human resource matters of the company's vehicle operations in Europe, and oversees Personnel in GM Powertrain Europe and GM's joint venture with AVTOVAZ. Prior to this appointment, she had been Vice President, Human Resources, for General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) since March 2000.
Gay Tosch was born in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A., on June 17, 1958. She received a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kalamazoo College, Michigan, U.S.A. in 1979 and a Masters in Business Administration in 1982 and a Juris Doctor degree in 1986, from University of Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.
She joined General Motors as a college-graduate-in-training in 1979 and held various positions in the personnel staffs in the Detroit Central office and at the Detroit Assembly Plant operations. Following two senior positions in Personnel at the Hydra-Matic Division in Warren, Michigan, Tosch was assigned to General Motors Europe in Zurich as Manager European Human Resource Management in 1988. In 1991, she returned to the U.S. as Assistant Personnel Director at the Tonawanda Engine Plant in New York. A year later, she was named Personnel Director. In 1994, Tosch was appointed Personnel Director GMC Division and after the merger was named Personnel Director, Pontiac-GMC in 1996. In 1997, Tosch was appointed Director Human Resources, North American Vehicle Sales Service and Marketing (VSSM). In 1998, she was promoted to Group Director, Human Resources at VSSM. In March, 2000, Tosch was appointed Vice President of Human Resources for General Motors Acceptance Corporation. Her responsibilities included the planning, policies, programs and services affecting the employees of GMAC Financial Services.
