Eric Stevens
GM Europe Vice
President, Manufacturing
Eric Stevens has been Vice President,
Manufacturing, General Motors Europe, since January 1, 2006. In this capacity,
he is responsible for all General Motors’ vehicle manufacturing and
assembly plants in Europe. He is based in Zurich, Switzerland. Prior to this
appointment, Stevens was Executive Director, Manufacturing, General Motors
Europe, since July, 2004.
Eric Stevens was born in Baltimore, Maryland,
U.S.A., on December 28, 1955. He received a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree
from Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1977 and a Masters
degree in International Affairs in 1979 from Queen's University, Kingston,
Ontario, Canada.
Eric began his career with General Motors Corporation in
1978 in their Canadian Headquarters facilities in Oshawa, Ontario. He
progressed through a variety of assignments in Materials Management, Quality and
Manufacturing, including responsibilities in GM's Export Operations in Quality
and Engineering Liaison for overseas Assembly Plants. In 1986 he was
transferred to the Divisional Finance Staff and remained there until 1988, when
he was assigned to a new General Motors-Suzuki joint venture in Ingersoll,
Canada.
In 1991, Eric Stevens became Director of Quality and
Reliability at Opel España, in Zaragoza, Spain. From December 1993 to
February 1997, he was President of Opel Eisenach and directed that operation
through much of its early years. He then moved to Zurich to become Executive
Director, Lean Manufacturing. In this position, building upon the experience
from Eisenach, he was responsible for planning and implementation of GM’s
five new plants around the globe at that time: Gravatai (Brazil), Gliwice
(Poland), Rayong (Thailand), Rosario (Argentina) and Shanghai (China). In
September 2000, he moved to Canada as Plant Manager of the Oshawa car assembly
plant, before being appointed Executive Director, Manufacturing Engineering for
GM Corporation, based in Warren, MI, USA. Since July, 2004, Eric has been
Executive Director, Manufacturing for General Motors Europe, based in Zurich,
Switzerland.
