Hans H. Demant has been GM Europe Vice President, Engineering, since December 1, 2001 and Managing Director of Opel since June 18, 2004. As head of the International Technical Development Center (ITDC) in Rüsselsheim, Germany, he is responsible for all General Motors Engineering activities in Europe.
Hans H. Demant was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, on September 21, 1950, and has a Master's degree in Engineering from Darmstadt Technical University. He started his career at Opel in Product Development and subsequently worked at General Motors Advanced Engineering in Warren, Michigan.
He returned to the ITDC in Rüsselsheim in 1985 and, in 1989, became Project Manager for the entire Corsa line-up, before being named Staff Engineer for Concept Development and Advanced Engineering in 1992. In 1997, Hans H. Demant was appointed Opel's Vehicle Line Executive for small cars, which specifically included responsibility for the company's successful Corsa and Agila models. He has been a member of the Opel Management Board since June 1999.
