CADILLAC SHOWS TOMORROW'S VISION ... AND TODAY'S STARS
- Vizón concept car
- Seville STS
- Northstar LMP race car
Vizón
Following the tradition set in the previous two years, Cadillac has again chosen the Geneva International Motor Show to reveal its latest eye-catching concept car for the first time outside the US.
Cadillac's 2001 concept is Vizón, an alluring adaptation of the best of a sports utility vehicle and wagon. It continues the new Cadillac sharp-edged house style and is powered by a 4.6 litre Northstar V8 engine.
Vizón bears more than a passing family likeness with Evoq and Imaj, previous Cadillac concepts which had their European debuts in Geneva last year and in 1999. The family relationship is exemplified in the luxury leather seating through an infotainment system with Bose speakers, a DVD player and video screens. Drivers may configure the instrument display area to personalise the information they choose.
While Vizón's features resemble a sports utility vehicle package, it delivers a very car-like ride as a result of its typically Cadillac technology, linked on this occasion with a five-speed automatic transmission.
Seville STS
Sophisticated and luxurious, the 2001 Seville STS, with its legendary Northstar V8 engine, has added further quality to its ride and handling performance, and to its in-car entertainment.
Amendments to the suspension have improved on-center steering feel and new Xenon headlamps and power folding mirrors that make parking and car washing easier than before also add to the car's inherent safety.
The Bose sound system is now standard on Seville, and the car's optional navigation system is improved with map CDs updated to the latest available map data, and Italy added as a mapped region. This brings total coverage to the UK, Benelux, Germany (two discs), France (two discs), Austria and Switzerland.
The sporty and dynamic STS (Seville Touring Sedan) is the fifth generation of the famous Detroit name, and brings with it the highest level of standard luxury items inside and outside the car.
Northstar LMP
Cadillac's commitment to world motor sport -- it returned to the Le Mans 24 Hours last year -- is reinforced with the appearance of the Northstar LMP race car which raised the Cadillac standard at the world famous race in 2000.
For the coming race season, the Northstar LMP is to be substantially revised but the crisp, clean lines which brought so much praise on the car last year will remain. In 2001 the LMP will be equipped with the Northstar V8 engine offering 575 horspower at 7500 rpm. To maintain their best speeds through the hours of darkness at Le Mans, the Northstar LMP team used an adaptation of the production Night Vision system.
The revisions to the car for Le Mans 2001 are to be undertaken by the famous designer Nigel Stroud and his team. The LMP will be raced as a two-car effort by the French-based DAMS team. An all-new LMP is being developed for 2002.
