Frankfurt. The Cadillac Seville STS now runs quieter than ever before, benefiting those both inside and outside the luxury sedan; a comprehensive engine noise reduction package now means further enhanced acoustic comfort. The system incorporates a steel crankshaft, pistons coated with a special resin material and optimized spark plug air gaps.
The Magnetic Ride Control damping system underlines Cadillac's determination to set standards in the suspension sector. The Seville STS boasts excellent ride comfort incorporating higher agility and stability. The Magnetic Ride Control system really shows its potential on poor road surfaces; its response time of just one millisecond makes this damping control system ten times quicker than other suspension systems over road undulations.
Magnetic Ride Control uses the magnetic properties of iron for continuous adaptation to road conditions and driving dynamics. The liquid in the shock absorbers contains minute metal particles. If the information from sensors on the wheels, steering or brakes tells the onboard computer that the damping forces need to be adapted, it sends electrical currents to electromagnetic coils. Located in each of the Cadillac Seville STS' shock absorbers, the latter immediately apply a magnetic field. This aligns the metal particles into defined structures, thereby changing the shear properties of the liquid. This allows damping variation 1000 times a second.
This is not the only area where the Seville STS (Seville Touring Sedan) demonstrates the high technical standards of the Cadillac marque. The appropriate power is supplied, for example, by the efficient and environmentally friendly 4.6-liter V8 Northstar engine, providing 224 kW/305 hp at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 400 Nm at 4400 rpm. Maximum speed is 240 kph. The Northstar engine has a unique limp-home capability that allows the car to run on four cylinders with a maximum speed of 80 kph to the nearest garage – even in case of total coolant loss. The stunning performance of the world's most powerful front-wheel-drive production car is enhanced by the StabiliTrak stability control system, traction control, ABS and Magnasteer speed-sensitive power steering.
The Seville boasts a comprehensive safety package and an interior distinguished by luxury soft leather upholstery and countless power-adjust options. Seats are programmed for perfect comfort and support by means of an array of state-of-the-art sensors and tiny motors buried deep inside. The rear view mirrors and radio can also be individually pre-programmed. Driving information is displayed digitally on the stylish dark glass fascia panel.
The 4.99-meter long luxury sedan boasts a DVD-based navigation system with voice recognition and a 165 x 127 mm touchscreen. A major plus is that a single DVD covers the whole of Europe. Passengers can even watch DVD films while the car is parked. An additional 6-disc CD changer in the center console together with the top-class Bose 4.0 sound system ensure concert hall-style listening pleasure, even when the navigation system is switched on. The voice recognition computer features 60 pre-programmed commands, with storage space for a further 200.
