2001 Pontiac Bonneville: Enhanced
Luxury with Unparalleled Attitude
DETROIT Pontiac Bonneville stands for
"Luxury With Attitude." Following its complete redesign
for the 2000 model year, the 2001 Bonneville focuses
on improvements that increase luxury, convenience
and safety for driver and passengers.
"Bonneville is designed for those who want a vehicle
offering excitement and adventure combined with power
and luxury. It's a true luxury sports sedan, and the
interior enhancements in the 2001 model serve to enhance
that luxury for the customer," said Bonneville Brand
Manager Jim Murray.
Model Lineup
Bonneville is available in three models SE,
SLE and SSEi each with a high level of standard
equipment that puts the driver in control of their
environment in comfort, convenience and security.
The Bonneville SE is a true sport sedan that seats
five or six comfortably in its roomy interior. Standard
features on the SE include independent front and rear
touring suspension with electronic level control,
tire pressure monitor, daytime running lamps with
twilight sentinel, Pass Key III security system, power
windows with express-down driver and passenger, power
outside rearview mirrors, and trunk pass-through.
Bonneville SLE places an even stronger emphasis on
style, performance and convenience. Among its standard
features are a six-way power driver's seat, remote
keyless entry, anti-theft alarm system, dual zone
climate control, independent front and rear performance
suspension with electronic level control, a 3.05 performance
axle ratio, a rear deck spoiler, and a Driver Information
Center.
Bonneville SSEi takes content to the highest level
with the StabiliTrak system, Head-Up display, variable-effort
steering, 12-way articulating driver and passenger
leather bucket seats with memory, trunk accessory
kit, and more.
Heated driver and passenger seats, previously an option
on SSEi only, are now available on all Bonneville
models.
Powerful Performance
Bonneville SE and SLE are powered by the acclaimed
3800 Series II V6 that generates 205 horsepower and
230 lb.-ft. (312 Nm) of torque, mated to the 4T65-E
four-speed electronic automatic transmission. Bonneville
SSEi's standard engine adds a supercharger and heavy-duty
transaxle with a lower axle ratio for higher power
240 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. (380 Nm) of
torque.
Standard Antilock Disc Brakes
Four-wheel antilock disc brakes are standard on all
Bonnevilles, with a Delco-Bosch 5.3 system providing
electronic proportioning. Available traction control
uses brake application and engine torque modulation
to increase driver control in slippery conditions.
Bold Distinctive Pontiac Styling
One look at Bonneville tells you it's all Pontiac.
Bonneville features the widest overall track in its
competitive set at 62.6 inches (1590.04 mm) in the
front and 62.1 inches (1577.34 mm) in the rear.
The Pontiac heritage shows in the robust silhouette,
the cat-eyed headlamps, integrated wide bodyside sculpting,
wide dihedral V-shapes in the hood and decklid, and
muscular haunches. One exterior color, Ivory White,
freshens Bonneville's 2001 palette.
Next Generation OnStar
OnStar's innovative, in-vehicle
safety, security and information service combines
Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite technology
and wireless communication to link the driver and
vehicle with the OnStar
Center, where advisors are available 24 hours a day,
365 days a year to offer real-time, personalized help.
Sport-Oriented Wheels and Tires
Bonneville SE features standard, large five-spoke
16-inch (406-mm) cast aluminum wheels with bolt-on
wheel covers, along with steel belted radial, blackwall
P225/60R16 touring tires.
A 17-inch (432 mm) multi-lace cast aluminum wheel
is standard on SLE and SSEi, with a chrome high-polished
multi-spoked 17-inch (432 mm) wheel available. Steel
belted P235/55R17 blackwall speed-rated tires are
standard on SLE and SSEi.
Large Mirror Surfaces
Heated, tinted power outside rearview mirrors are
standard on SLE and SSEi, providing a wide viewing
surface. Parallel parking gets easier in the SSEi
with passenger-side mirrors that dip automatically
to give the driver a better view of the curb.
Interior Personalization
Inside Bonneville, drivers will find an amazing array
of programmable personalization. Two drivers can easily
program their preferences, which are activated by
their individual key fobs. Programmable features include:
- Available dual climate control with separate temperature
and fan controls for the driver and front seat passenger
- Heated seats with position memory, including seat
lumbar, entry and exit positions
- Specialized seek, scan and memory functions on
the premium sound system with Bose speakers
- Automatic power door locks, outside rearview mirror
position and perimeter lighting
Seat Selection
Bonneville's occupants ride in comfort and style with
standard 45/45 bucket seats in Geneva Cloth or available
leather. Convenient storage comes in the form of a center
console. A 55/45 bench seat with fold down center storage
armrest is available on the SE in cloth only for six
passenger seating.
Driver and passenger six-way power adjusters are offered
on the SE and SLE. SSEi buyers enjoy standard twelve-way
articulating power driver and passenger bucket leather
seats with driver position memory.
Entertainment Systems with RDS
Bonneville features Delco Electronics 100 Series radios
with TheftLock. These radios feature Radio
Data Systems (RDS) technology that can search for
radio stations with the customer's preferred formats,
such as jazz, classic rock, or talk radio. The system
can also be programmed to temporarily interrupt audio
programs to alert the driver of important traffic or
weather conditions.
SE and SLE provide entertainment via an AM/FM stereo
auto-reverse cassette system with automatic tone control
and remote CD changer capability. Three optional SE
sound systems include an AM/FM stereo with CD only,
stereo cassette and CD, or trunk-mounted 12-disc CD
changer.
The top-of-the-line Delco radio, standard on SSEi, includes
a seven-band equalizer. Also standard on SSEi is an
exclusive eight-speaker Bose system with four-inch (101.6
mm) combination tweeter/midrange speakers in each rear
door panel.
Redundant steering radio controls, which place commonly
used audio control functions at the driver's fingertips,
are standard on SE (1SC), SLE and SSEi.
Safety and Security
Safety and security are inherent to the concept of luxury.
That's why Bonneville's interior components were engineered
to help minimize trauma to occupants in the event of
a collision.
Bonneville's steering column has enhanced energy-absorbing
capability to help reduce the driver's chance of chest
injuries. Instrument panel knee bolsters are stiff enough
to resist diving forward toward occupants, but resilient
enough to reduce lower-extremity injuries.
Bonneville's structural reinforcements are the foundation
for excellent crashworthiness. An integral quarter panel
with one-piece side frame inner and outer stampings,
a stiff overall body, strong seat and safety belt anchors,
and excellent cross-car integrity work together, allowing
the 2001 Bonneville to exceed requirements in roof crush,
side intrusion and off-center collisions.
Bonneville's self-aligning headrests, built into the
front seat backs, help reduce the incidence and severity
of whiplash by rotating closer to the occupant's head
in rear end collisions. Catcher's Mitt-style seats provide
additional support, surrounding the occupants like a
ball in a catcher's mitt in the event of a rear collision.
Front and Side Impact Air Bags
When used with safety belts and proper child restraints,
Bonneville's standard driver and passenger front and
side-impact air bags provide additional occupant protection
in both frontal and side-impact collisions.
"All-Belts-to-Seats" Technology
Lap and shoulder belts for driver and front passenger
are integrated into the seat design. This "all-belts-to-seats"
technology provides the passenger and driver with enhanced
comfort and convenience. Because the front belts are
mounted directly to the seats, they move with the occupants
for greater comfort.
Child Seat Tether Anchors
Uniform Child Restraint Anchors, or "top tether anchors,"
are located at all three rear seat locations to provide
a solid upper attachment for child seats. Anchors increase
child protection by limiting the movement of a child
seat in a frontal collision.
Bonneville for 2001 represents an excellent blending
of style, luxury, driving dynamics and safety. For drivers
with a youthful attitude, Bonneville provides a bold,
exciting alternative to traditional luxury.
