2002 GMC YUKON DENALI AND YUKON XL DENALI SET THE STANDARD FOR PREMIUM FULL-SIZE SUVS
With their high level of refinement, performance and control, GMC’s 2002 Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali continue to set the standard for premium full-size SUVs.
Brand new for 2001, this year’s models have been upgraded with a more efficient starter that draws less current, a more durable steering gear housing and a new anchorage system for rear child seats. The system, called LATCH (Lower Anchors and Top tethers for Children) provides more accessible attachment for rear child seats. It also allows installation of LATCH-compatible child seats without requiring a seat belt.
Power and performance
Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali provide quick, responsive handling and performance and enough power for serious work assignments with their standard Vortec 6000 V8, the segment’s highest displacement engine. It couples to a 4L65-E heavy-duty electronic four-speed automatic transmission whose 3.06 first gear and 0.70 final gear in conjunction with a 3.73 axle ratio contribute to quick responsiveness and quiet, efficient highway cruising. The Vortec 6000 provides 90 percent of its peak torque over a long 1600 to 5200 rpm range for maximum towing or carrying.
The refined interior features plush, tone-on-tone leather trimmed seats, 10-way power controlled front bucket seats and heated front and second-row cushions, a large multifunctional extended floor console with driver information center which provides fingertip control for many vehicle functions, Black Cherry wood trim, and an 11-speaker Bose Acoustimass audio system.
A standard full-time, all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and AutoRide suspension optimize control and ride smoothness under any road or load conditions. The advanced viscous coupling technology in the AWD system automatically and continuously transfers torque in a smooth, imperceptible manner to maintain optimum front-to-rear torque split and best balance of handling characteristics under all operating conditions. AutoRide uses a real-time damping system to select the best damping for different road conditions. A standard fully automatic rear air leveling system, working in conjunction with coil springs, also maintains the vehicles’ trim height, regardless of how much weight they carry.
In addition to GM’s factory-installed OnStar communications system, Denali provides a year’s worth of next-generation OnStar safety and security package services at no charge. The package includes automatic emergency assistance when air bags deploy and remote unlocking and diagnostics services. Optional OnStar services include hands-free calling and e-mail, as well as the concierge services.
Yukon Denali is available as a single eight-passenger model and the Yukon XL Denali with a choice of seven or eight-passenger seating.
