2002 GMC SONOMA SIMPLIFIES LINEUP, ENHANCES VALUE WITH MORE FEATURES

With additional standard features and a more focused lineup, the 2002 GMC Sonoma adds outstanding value to its professional grade work capability. Led by its roomy, comfortable five-passenger Crew Cab, Sonoma provides exceptional versatility to satisfy the diverse needs of compact pickup customers.

More focused lineup, standard third door

For 2002, Sonoma offers a simpler selection of trim levels and a higher level of standard equipment. The changes simplify vehicle ordering and provide more customer value.

Although the 2WD Regular Cab long box model has been discontinued, customers still have a wide selection of bodystyles, including two-door Regular Cab, three-door Extended Cab and four-door Crew Cab models.

Sonoma’s flagship four-door Crew Cab, introduced in the 2001 model year, provides access to a highly roomy and comfortable, sedan-like interior through four full-sized doors. It features such standard equipment as the Vortec 4300 V6 engine and 4L60-E four-speed electronic automatic transmission, SLS trim and four-wheel-drive, along with a specially designed short bed configuration. The Crew Cab further enhances its appeal with an available graphite leather trim interior and hard, lockable tonneau cover.

Sonoma offers a choice of two- or four-wheel-drive, two engines, three transmissions and four suspension selections. Three doors are now standard on all Extended Cab models, with the third door conveniently located behind the driver’s door for easy rear-seat storage and passenger access. Every four-wheel-drive Extended Cab model, equipped with the ZR2 High Rider package, receives a standard ZR2 decal.

Sonoma’s SLE trim is discontinued. However, chrome grille trim and a matching center cap on the wheels have been added to the SLS trim package. Also, a tachometer and air conditioning are now standard on all models sold to fleet customers. (They still have the air conditioning delete option available to them.) Sonomas delivered to North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Minnesota and Alaska now have the Cold Climate package standard.

Beige Custom cloth and Pewter Vinyl trim have been discontinued as a choice for regular customers (non-fleet purchases). Sandalwood is available as a new exterior color selection; Medium Sage Green Metallic is discontinued.

All Sonoma models offer a newly available rear cargo bed extender. New state-of-the-art audio systems replace previous standard AM/FM stereo and optional AM/FM stereo cassette audio systems in mid-year. Availability of the new sound systems depends on the trim level. All audio systems have four speakers and include:

An ETR AM/FM stereo radio with speed-compensated volume, TheftLock and an in-dash, six-disc CD player, optional on all models; the CD player provides the flexibility of loading or ejecting any one of the six CDs independently of the others, loading up all six in rapid sequence with the press of one button or ejecting all six with the press of another button. It also provides single-disc random play, selecting tracks from one disc, or full random play, skipping from one disc to the next.

GMC SONOMA AND GM ACCESSORIES: A WINNING COMBINATION

Fun and convenience are but a few of GMC Sonoma’s hallmarks. GM Accessories offers customers an extra dash of these qualities with lifestyle and appearance packages.

GMC Sonoma’s appearance can be altered to fit all types of customer preferences. Owners can choose windshield and bodyside graphics that complement the vehicle’s body color, or a front-end cover that offers ultimate protection from stones and insects.

A tubular guard wraps around the front grille and headlamps for a custom-fit appearance that offers protection on city streets or off-road terrain. Lights top off the look and can be customized for work or play.

Towing and carriers

The trailer hitch, built for convenience and long lasting durability, allows customers numerous hauling applications for items such as bikes, skis or snowboards and much more.

The hitch carrier system features a sturdy connection to the truck’s two-inch receiver. All hitch carrier units tilt down with a hand-operated lever so the cargo area is easy to access. The ski package allows customers to carry up to six pairs of skis or four snowboards. Quick release attachments make loading and unloading a snap.

Owners looking for more room can purchase the pickup box extender. The extender expands hauling capabilities and provides additional length or swings in for a more stable cargo area.

Protecting the vehicle

Bed rails are another handy addition for tying down cargo and protecting the vehicle from damage. Bed mats, bed liners and splash guards also help shield the pickup from mud, dirt, snow, salt and gravel.

A snapless soft tonneau cover will protect the pickup bed and cargo from the elements. A folding hard tonneau cover is available that stands up to rugged use while sheltering the load. The cover has a locking feature for extra security.

Recreation

For outdoor-oriented owners, the bed sport tent is a handy addition. The bed tent sleeps two and the lightweight unit fits into a small carrying pouch for convenient storage behind the cab seat. The food and beverage warmer/cooler is a perfect accent for road trips or tailgate parties. The warmer/cooler unit plugs into the cigarette lighter. Vinyl or carpet floor mats are also available.

Available at GMC dealers

All GM Accessory packages and individual accessories are available for purchase at GMC dealerships.

"GM Accessories permanently installed on a new GM vehicle at the time of delivery are covered under the GM New Vehicle Limited Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty," said Jim Kornas, director sales and marketing, GM Accessories. "GM Parts and Accessories permanently installed by a GM dealer after vehicle purchase are covered for the balance of the New Vehicle Warranty, but in any event no less than 12 months or 12,000 miles."

SPO, headquartered in Grand Blanc, Mich., markets automotive replacement parts and accessories worldwide under the GM and ACDelco brand names. For more information, visit the GM Goodwrench Service Plus website at http://www.GMGoodwrench.com.
