WHAT:
Vortec V8 Tahoe -- Police Package would provide law enforcement an affordable package to meet their needs. Features full-size, full-frame, four-door, two-wheel-drive. Alternative to the Ford Crown Victoria. Would replace the Chevrolet Caprice, which will be discontinued after the 1996 model year. Tested and rated as an extremely viable patrol and pursuit police vehicle by the Michigan State Police and Los Angeles County Sheriff Department. Police package would supplement Vortec V8 Tahoe’s rugged standard content.
Basic police package includes standard Vortec V8 Tahoe equipment modified with special Chevrolet police chassis and police front end appearance.

Chevrolet is testing the Vortec V8 Tahoe Police Package with police agencies to get their technical input and to gauge their interest.
WHERE:
Vortec V8 Tahoe Police Package would be assembled at an undetermined GM location. Chevrolet Tahoe assembled currently at Janesville, Wisc.
WHY:
Over 60 years ago, Chevrolet created its version of the full-size sport utility vehicle. Since then, Tahoe has evolved into a versatile, rugged truck that’s well suited to law enforcement needs. The Vortec V8 Tahoe could replace the discontinued Caprice, and continue Chevrolet’s commitment to the full-size police market.
