2000 Chevy Trucks Overview

DETROIT - With the recent launch of Silverado and Tracker and this year's launch of the new Suburban and Tahoe, the Chevy Truck lineup moves into the 21st century with cutting-edge performance, comfort and durability. Chevy Truck continues to make key enhancements that help secure its place at the
forefront of the highly-competitive truck industry and maintain its reputation for producing the most dependable, longest-lasting trucks on the road.

"One of the areas that sets Chevy trucks apart from the competition is the tremendous breadth of vehicles we offer," said Chevrolet General Manager, Kurt Ritter. "Whether you're looking for a comfortable SUV like Blazer, or a sporty-looking S-10 Pickup, or even a workhorse like Silverado for your business - Chevy Truck has it."

Chevy offers a vehicle for almost every part of the industry - from family transportation to heavy-duty commercial applications. The following is an overview of the Chevy Truck lineup for 2000.

PICKUPS

While Chevy continues to offer a variety of pickups in 2000, Silverado prepares to take over as the sole full-size offering after the C/K Pickup bows out after this model year.

Silverado.

A new optional rear driver-side fourth door on Extended Cab models heads the list of changes to the 2000 Silverado. This new feature provides easy cargo loading and passenger entry/exit. Available Silverado models include 1500 Regular and Extended Cab and a 2500 Regular and Extended Cab. Both the 1500 and 2500 models are available in Short or Long Box, while a Sportside Box is available on select 1500 models. Two- and four-wheel drive configurations and Base, LS and LT trim levels are also available.

Silverado performance is enhanced for 2000, thanks to a number of powertrain improvements. Horsepower output for the Vortec 4800 V8 SFI engine climbs to 270 hp @ 5200 rpm, an increase of 15 horsepower over last year. Similarly, the Vortec 5300 V8 SFI engine receives 15 additional horsepower, checking in at 285 hp @ 5200 rpm. Torque for the Vortec 5300 has also been increased to 325 lb.-ft. @ 4000 rpm; 10 more lb.-ft. than the previous version.

While retaining the same power output as before, the Vortec 6000 V8 SFI engine receives a high extension torque converter when equipped with the available automatic transmission. This provides improved performance. The Vortec V6 engine features a number of enhancements for quieter operation and extended durability.

Wheel flares, now available on 1500 four-wheel-drive models, offer a sporty look while reducing dirt accumulation on the side panels. Also new for the exterior is an available tonneau cover that helps keep exterior cargo dry during inclement weather.

Silverado

LT models include a new self-dimming inside rearview mirror (available on LS) to help reduce glare. The mirror features a new outside temperature display and compass for added functionality. LS and LT models include programmable power door locks for greater convenience.

C/K Pickup

. Appearing in the Chevy Truck lineup for its final year, C/K Pickup still offers the rugged durability and features that have made it legendary during more than eight decades in the full-size pickup market.

C/K 2500 and C/K 3500 models are available in 28 different models. Configurations include: Regular Cab, Extended Cab, Crew Cab and Chassis Cab with either a long or short box. Add three distinct trim levels (Base, LS and LS Premium) to the equation, and you have one of the most varied and versatile full-size pickups available.

Three available engines power the C/K Pickup line - a Vortec 5700 V8 SFI, Vortec 7400 V8 SFI and a strong 6.5-liter Turbo-Diesel.

New Emerald Green Metallic paint is added to the C/K Pickup nine-color palette for a total of ten available colors.

S-10 Pickup.

S-10 Pickup is available in a number of body styles and trim levels and in two- or four-wheel drive configurations to meet the needs of a wide range of compact pickup drivers.

The Vortec 4300 V6 engine is improved for quieter operation and extended durability over last year.
The standard 5-speed manual overdrive transmission is also refined for quieter operation and extended gear life. And, for those into sport performance, the optional ZR2 suspension package (available on LS Extended Cab) now features a new rear axle for better performance. In addition, the S-10 Pickup antilock brake system (ABS) uses a new controller that helps ensure reliable antilock performance.

The 2000 S-10 Pickup features appearance enhancements. Extended Cab models are available with Base trim, while the optional Exterior Appearance Package includes a gray grille with a chrome insert.
Body-side moldings are also available. Rounding out the exterior color lineup is new Space Blue Metallic paint, available with LS trim.

Tracker.

For 2000, Tracker builds on the success of last year's redesign. Available in Two-Door Convertible or Four-Door models, Tracker appeal continues to gain momentum with its sporty look, compact size and agile and durable characteristics.

Utility is demonstrated throughout the design of Chevy Tracker. The rear seat of Four-Door models has room for three adults. Storage areas abound - as do user-friendly amenities.

Underneath, Tracker uses a ladder-type frame construction, for tight, rugged performance. Combined with the hard-working suspension system, this construction gives Tracker a comfortable ride on all sorts of driving surfaces.

The exterior of Tracker is updated with several new available paint colors for 2000, including Dark Blue on Four-Door models, Bright Blue for Two-Door models and Copper Brown for both body styles.

GM MOBILITY PROGRAM

Chevy Truck is an active participant in the GM Mobility Program for people with disabilities. Many Chevy Trucks feature certain accommodating options. For instance, Silverado offers four doors and S-10 Extended Cab Pickups offers three doors. These trucks can be fitted with wheelchair lift devices and other mobility aids. The Chevy family of vans also offers a wide variety of alternate transportation opportunities.

Chevrolet recognizes the importance of mobility to everyone's life and, therefore, offers financial assistance to persons with disabilities through the GM Mobility program - up to $1,000 toward the cost of any aftermarket adaptive equipment for drivers or passengers and/or vehicle "alternative devices" for deaf and hearing-impaired drivers.

A special feature of the program is single-transaction GMAC financing for the vehicle and its adaptive aids. Further details are available by calling the GM Mobile Assistance Center at 1-800-323-9935. Hearing impaired callers can contact the Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-9-TDD-CHEV.

In recognition of athletes with disabilities, Chevrolet proudly presents "Barrier Breakers," a trio of disabled athletes who exemplify the versatility and adaptability of Chevy Trucks and those whose individual accomplishments inspire Americans.

The team is comprised of U.S. Disabled Ski Team member Sarah Will, extreme outdoor athlete Mark Wellman, and off-road racer Evan Evans.
